Today is my favorite day of year the because from here on for the next 6 months we get more and more sunshine each day.

The older I get the more I realize I run off solar batteries.

Oh, Jan! You and me both. My solar cells are already begging for more sunshine and longer days. A warm swimming pool would be a huge bonus!

Christmas Eve. Hands down.

All of the fun and joy of Christmas, plus the relief that Christmas Eve services are over, and the fun of expectation for the next day with friends and family.

(And that the Christmas spending is over, and I'll take the longer days too!)

I probably have two days I really like. One is the day the time changes back to daylight savings time because I despise standard time and it getting dark so early. It is stupid to be shifting time back and forth.

My second one is the day after Christmas when I know it is finally over with. I hate the commercialization and greed associated with Christmas. It irritates me that the big retailers have gotten so greedy, they open Thanksgiving night and make their employees work just to try to sell a few things. It is irritating to turn on the tv and see news stories where people got in a fight and were injured over a pair of shoes or a cheap tv. I hate having to go to stores and listen to charities ringing bells and begging me for money on my way in and out. I hate that the bums come out of the woodwork and beg for money in the parking lots and hold signs at street corners because they know at Christmas time, people will give them more money. I have grown to just not like Christmas much at all anymore.

Thanksgiving is always my favorite. It's a day of family and love and realizing all that you have in your life and being grateful for all of it. It's when I begin to reflect on the year I've had with a focus on all the positives.

Christmas, for me, is not quite the same. The holiday rush gets in the way and the stress and presents and commercialism can bring me down. I love giving gifts on my own time, not because there's a day that calls for it. But Thanksgiving, for me, is pure joy. I also love New Year's Eve and Day, but it doesn't quite match Thanksgiving.

My favorite day of the year is actually the Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival. I look forward to it all year. I just love the atmosphere, the chicken wing eating contest, trying all the wings, and meeting new people. It's such a fun, festive, and unique environment that is purely Buffalo in every sense of the word. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

I have three favorite days of the year....

1. Christmas Eve. I love the excitement in the air, the enjoyment of Christmas, the time with family and friends.

2. 4th of July! Summer, pool, BBQ, ice cold :beer:or:marg: Fireworks, fun summer days ahead!

3.The days from Thanksgiving through New Year's.
As I get older, I have come to see that Christmas is a "season", and to put it all on a day makes expectations too high. I enjoy all the traditions, foods, sights, sounds, concerts, shows, cards, decorations, visits, shopping, wrapping and gift giving and try to do it all in the five weeks starting with Thanksgiving!
Happy New Year!
