Nov. 22, 1980 – Although it has been running since Oct. 1, 1980, WDW’S “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” had its Grand Opening.
Nov. 22, 1985 – The Disney film “One Magic Christmas” was released.
Nov. 22, 1989 – The “Walt Disney World Swan” Hotel operated by Westin, opened at WDW.
Nov. 22, 1991 – Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” show opened at Disney-MGM Studios at WDW.
Nov. 22, 1991 – Disney’s 30th animated feature film, “Beauty and the Beast,” featuring the voices of Robby Benson as the Beast, and Paige O’Hara as Belle, was generally released in U.S. theaters.
Nov. 22, 1991 – The Disney Channel Premiere film “Mark Twain and Me” aired.
Nov. 22, 1992 – Disney Legend & character actor Sterling Holloway, the first voice of Winnie the Pooh, passed away in Los Angeles, Ca. His voice can be heard in such Disney classics as “The Aristocats,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Alice in Wonderland.” (Holloway also voiced the original Cheerios Honey-Nut Bee.)
Nov. 22, 1994 – Actor Sidney Poitier was named to the Disney Board of Directors due to the vacancy caused by the death of Frank Wells. (Held post till Mar. 19, 2003)
Nov. 22, 1994 – Disney’s All-Star Music Resort opened to guest at WDW.
Nov. 22, 1994 – Adriana Caselotti (the original voice of Snow White) was among the 9 inducted as Disney Legends.
