Oct. 31, 1971 – Disney aired part-1 of the 2-part television movie “The Strange Monster of Strawberry Cove.” (Part 2 aired Nov. 7, 1971)
Oct. 31, 1976 – The Disney TV show aired “The Secret of Old Glory Mine.”
Oct. 31, 1977 – Director, writer, producer and narrator James “Jim” Algar retired after 43 years with the Walt Disney Studios. He produced live-action films about animals and nature, worked on 26 one-hour episodes of “The Wonderful World of Disney” TV series, and contributed to theme park attractions such as “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” and “The Hall of Presidents.” Algar would be named a Disney Legend in 1998.
Oct. 31, 1989 – Disney’s Contemporary Resort Halloween Party took place in the Ballroom of the Americas (located on the 2nd floor) at 7pm.
Oct. 31, 1993 – “The Disney Villain “ by veteran animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (two of Walt’s Nine Old Men) was published by Disney Editions.
Oct. 31, 1994 – Disneyland and KIIS-FM Radio (featuring Rick Dees) hosted a special Halloween party from 6am to 10am. Guests arriving at Disneyland in costume between 6am and 8:30am entered the park with free admission.
Oct. 31, 1996 – Ghost and Goblins put on a happy face at WDW’S Magic Kingdom for “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.” Guests attended the party dressed in costumes, and enjoyed special entertainment, hayrides down Main Street U.S.A., and trick-or-treating for children throughout the park.
Oct. 31, 1996 – Disney’s live-action feature “The Wind in the Willows” was released. Featuring members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus (Eric Idle, John Cleese, Michael Palin, and Terry Jones) the film would get a great review, but unfortunately got lost in the shuffle of a legal battle with distributors. When released to DVD in 2004, the film’s title would be changed to “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.”
Oct. 31, 2000 – To celebrate the 1st Disney Store opening in Europe 10 years ago, a special Pooh beanie was released. The Beanie featured Pooh wearing a pointed hat with the words “The Disney Store Europe” on it.
Oct. 31, 2001 – The Disney Village at Disneyland Paris hosted a ticketed event on this Halloween night. Guests competed in costume contest while enjoying the evening’s lineup of concerts, parades, and shows.
