Oct. 16, 1977 – Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist John Mayor was born in Bridgeport, Ct. His version of the classic song “Route 66” appeared on the 2006 soundtrack for the Disney/Pixar “Cars.”
Oct. 16, 1977 – Actress Amanda Tepe was born in Cincinnati, Oh. Her Disney Channel credits include “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Cory in the House,” and “That’s So Raven.”
Oct. 16, 1984 – Actor Tevor Blumas, who appeared in Disney’s 2005 “Ice Princess,” was born in London, Ontario, Canada.
Oct. 16, 1988 – Disney’s TV special “Disney’s All-American Sports Nuts” aired on NBC.
Oct. 16, 1992 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures film “Consenting Adults” was released.
Oct. 16, 1996 – Imagineer X Atencio was among the 10 inducted as Disney Legends.
Oct. 16, 1997 – The 27th annual Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Golf Classic began.
Oct. 16, 1998 – At the Disney Legends Ceremony and luncheon at the Walt Disney Studio’s in Burbank, Ca., two Disney “Alices” joined the group. Virginia Davis, considered to be the first Disney star, hired by 21-year-old Walt Disney for his silent “Alice Comedies” and Kathryn Beaumont – Levine, whose voice and personality were essential parts of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland,” were inducted.
Oct. 16, 1998 – The Disney/Touchstone Pictures film “Beloved” was released.
Oct. 16, 2001 – Due to a drop in theme park visitors since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, WDW postponed the opening of their new resort, Pop Century. The 1st phase of the resort was scheduled to open in March 2002.
