Sept. 17, 2002 – Disney released its 2001 Blockbuster “Monsters, Inc.” on a 2-disc special edition DVD and VHS. It features the new animated short “Mike’s New Car,” created exclusively for this release.
Sept. 17, 2002 – Disney’s half-hour TV series “8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” began airing on ABC. (Ended Aug. 19, 2005)
Sept. 17, 2002 – Disney’s half-hour TV series “Life with Bonnie” began airing on ABC-TV. (Ended July 30, 2004)
Sept. 17, 2004 – The Disney/Touchstone Picture film “Mr. 3000” was released.
Sept. 17, 2004 – Imagineer Rolly Crump was among the 11 inducted as Disney Legends.
Sept. 17, 2005 – A tribute to and a celebration of Pixar’s Joe Ranft (who passed away Aug. 16th) was held for a few hundred guest at the Emeryville studio.
Sept. 17, 2006 – Lee Cockerell, former executive vice president of operations at WDW, was honored with a Main Street USA window in recognition of his contributions to the company. Al Weiss, president, worldwide operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, presented the award in front of the Uptown Jewelers in the Magic Kingdom. Cockerell, along with his family, served as Grand Marshal for the afternoon’ s Disney Dreams Come-True Parade.
Sept. 17, 2006 – Kevin Broady, 44, of Brea, Ca. posted a time of 1:11:31 to lead the field of more than 9,700 participants en-route to victory in the inaugural Disneyland Half Marathon in Anaheim, Ca. Broady, a former Disneyland Cast Member, finished just a minute and a half over Benjamin Gomez Gutierrez, 30, of Jalostotitlan, Mexico who finished second.
Sept. 17, 2009 – Iron Chef, Cat Cora opened “Kouzzina” Restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk at WDW. (Replaced Spoodles Restaurant)
Sept. 17, 2010 – Disneyland kicked off its “Halloween Time” for the season. (Ran through Oct. 31st)
