My kids (1st grade and VPK) go back to school on the 20th. I feel so unprepared.

This has been the longest shortest summer ever!:)

I'm a teacher at a charter school and our new students come back August 24th and our returning students come back August 27th. (I go back the 20th and I also feel unprepared!)

Schools in my area started on the 13th and my kids in a different district start on the 22nd.

When I was just on vacation near Gatlinburg, TN, they said there kids start August 2nd. YIKES!!! That is early!

We always start the day after Labor Day. They have tried to start earlier to increse the number of days kids are in school but they have not been successful.

We used to start almost that early in FL too. They have been moving the date back one week each year but I don't think it is going to be any later than this year.

I grew up in MA.We always started after Labor Day and got out in late June.

My Neice and Nephew went back to school yesterday. I felt a bit sorry for them as we finally have some sun here in Scotland but I think they were both glad to go back and see their friends

Tuesday after Labour Day here. Our kids are grown and finished school now, but the buses will be coming by the house soon, so we always know.

Ontario has toyed with the idea of year-round school with several shorter vacation periods throughout the year. They have been thinking about it since I left school and yet nothing has been done about it. I don't think there is the political will to face that elephant in the room, plus the fact that all the schools would have to put in air conditioning since it gets so hot here in the summers. No one wants to face paying for that bill.

We home school and do school year round, but we count down the days till school starts in town because we enjoy a fall trip and going to parks and Legoland when there's NO CROWDS!!!

All that happy talk just to say that kids here start school August 27th.

Most private schools in our area go back sometime after Labor Day (typically that Tuesday after) and depending on which public school system you are in but they all start sometime between 8/27 - 8/31. Don't know why but some of our public schools start on an official day different than the others. It's not a set day across the state.

We are just West of St Louis and our local schools started this week. I don't have any kids in school ( they are adults ) so it makes it really quiet.

How about August 1st!. And not only that, but marching band camp started on July 16th, so my 11th grader had all of 6 weeks for his summer vacation. Over before it started good.

My DS's go back August 21st. :( They are both in high school, but I still get oh so sad when school starts each year! I love when they are home for the summer, no homework, no projects, no bedtimes - ahh the easy breezy summer life! :cloud9: More time for hanging out together, & way more family time! With each passing year, I'm reminded how few of these first days of school I have left with them! They'll be grown & gone before I know it & I can't even imagine those days! :( So yeah, mom still sheds a few tears on the first day of school every year. :(

I'm in Eastern NC - We start on August 26th or the first weekday after then 26th should it fall on a weekend. So, my last one in high school starts August 27. He's been in band camp since July 18th and we have our 1st football game this Friday - yes folks we have 2 games BEFORE school starts.

And my DD starts her 1st year of college Monday Aug. 20th.

Our school district has always gone back the day after Labor Day. So, this year it is Sept. 4th. My DS's birthday is Sept. 3rd, so at least he gets his birthday off this year.

Drumline camp was last week. The full marching band camp is this week. So our summer has been over for a while, but the first official day of school is next Wednesday (8/22).

We got out at the end of May. I actually wish they went back earlier or got out later so we had a real fall break (a week in October). Other years, it would have been nice for a family trip. This year, with the twins being seniors, it would be nice for college visits ahead of the Nov. 1 application deadline.

If their academic and band schedules aren't too heavy - we just pulled our kids to do college visits as they are excused absences for our school district.

Good luck with the visits. We'll be starting visits with our sophomore son (last of our 4 to head off) this spring.

Ditto! Mine aren't in HS just yet, but next year one will be.:( I know how you feel. They start back on Sept. 6th, so I have a couple more weeks of quality and quantity time.

This quote has summed it up for me. This is my first summer working full time (I got a promotion) and it has been a killer as I didn't have my days off to spend with the kids. :( All I kept thinking was "how many more summers am I going to have with them? ". So now I am seriously debating going back PT
Sorry :offtopic: I'm venting

September 4th for my girls.

This summer has gone by so fast, and we have all enjoyed every minute of it.

Ughhh...to go back to homework, projects, and enforcing bedtimes, schlepping kids all over the place.

I love summer, family time, and just having some fun!
Yeah...I usually have a good cry on Labor Day....Thankfully there is football to look forward to.

Ours started on August 13. I think some of the public schools in the area started even earlier. I was not ready for school to start, it was too short! My DD13 told me the time felt more like Christmas break or a long weekend, than summer vacation.
