What is the cancellation policy for booking through Disney? We're booking at POR for December but might upgrade to CR if things go well this fall. Does Disney let you do this? What about all out cancellations?

Cancellation policy is 45 days + no penalty, but within 45 days it's a $200 penalty. However, upgrading from one resort to another wouldn't be considered a cancellation. They would adjust your current reservation. I changed 2 weeks before a recent vacation with no problems. I would strongly suggest using Magical Journeys for that kind of thing. They make it a lot easier.

Strmchsr is correct for package reservations. But if you do a room-only reservation, the policy is much more lenient. For out-right cancellations, it's a full refund as long as you cancel more than 5 days before the start of the trip. Inside that 5 day window, you'll lose 1 night's room and tax. Also, for room only, you only have to put down 1 night +tax deposit, with the rest due at check-in (although you can pay any or all of the remainder prior to check-in).

Changing resort still doesn't count as cancelling the reservation.

Using Magical Journeys is still the easiest way to handle reservations - even more so if you know there's a chance things might change somewhere along the line.

Disney will never charge you if you want to spend more money on a room.
