May 22, 2003 - An African Elephant was born on the savannah at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and was named Tufani.
May 22, 2003 – The new film “Reflections of China” began airing at the China Pavilion in Epcot at WDW. (Replaced Wonders of China)
May 22, 2004 – In celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 75th Anniversary, Underground Atlanta played host to 15 700-pound, 6-foot tall Mickey Mouse statues, part of the celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations touring statue program (that was first unveiled t noon with the help of Mickey Mouse, Disney Legend Al Konetzini and Atlanta’s own artist Thomas Knechtel, and will remain on display at the venue through, Tuesday July 30, 2004.
May 22, 2005 – Voice actor and singer Thurl Ravenscroft passed away at age 91 in Fullerton, Ca. Best known as the voice of Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger, Ravenscroft’s numerous Disney credits include “101 Dalmatians,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Aristocats,” and “Cinderella.” He can also be heard in such Disney theme park attractions as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Haunted Mansion,” and “Country Bear Jamboree.” (It is also Ravenscroft’s deep voice you hear singing “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in the Christmas TV special “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
May 22, 2007 – The “Pirates of the Caribbean: Adventures on the Seven Seas Lagoon” was held at WDW. (3-day event)
May 22, 2008 – The Disney film “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was released in theaters.
May 22, 2009 – The first of 4 Star Wars Weekends kicked off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at WDW.
May 22, 2009 – The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story, a documentary about the sibling who wrote some of Hollwood’s and Disney’s most memorable songs, was released in N.Y.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco and Palm Desert, Ca. for a limited run.
May 22, 2009 – Disney’s interactive 40-city train tour to promote the upcoming movie Disney’s “A Christmas Carol,” began in Los Angeles, Ca. at the Los Angeles Union Station.
May 22, 2010 – Disney/Pixar and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation teamed up to present 2 exclusive screenings of “Toy Story 3” at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, Ca. (The film would be released June 18th).
