A friend of mine is planning a trip to DHS in a couple of weeks. She'd like to sign her daughter up to participate in the American Idol Experience.

Do you know where she could find out the details of the sign-up process? Also, any other tips are appreciated.

Thanks!:mickey:

Go to the AI Experience Audition area (it's near the ABC Commissary). You will sign up at the entrance and be led back to the audition rooms. You have to be 15 to do a "real" audition, but they let kids audition, too, just for fun if they have the time and room in the audition process. They usually have 3-6 audition rooms going at once, depending on expected crowds (I have 2 friends who are casting directors, so they would be the one your friend's daughter would go in front of). You have to sing about 30 seconds acapella. At that point you're given a little vocal coaching and the casting director might want to hear something from a specific style. It really is a serious audition, and not just a show. On average they have about 400 people per day audition. More than that and they close auditions down. The casting directors cull the field to about 40 who then go before the show's producers (so chances of making it on stage aren't great - she needs to know that ahead of time - you really have to be top notch). The producer gives you time to pick a song and rehearse it a little. It's a 45 second version of the song you pick off of their list. They then bring you in, one at a time, in front of the producer who listens to you sing with music. 3 guests are chosen for each "show" and they generally have 6 shows/day, so a total of 18 guests will get on stage. The winner of the 6 shows meet in the evening for the finale where the day's winner is chosen. That winner is given a dream pass which lets them go straight to the front of the line at any real AI audition. It's a cool process and fun to go through. The important thing is to be ready and temper expectations. Don't get disappointed if you aren't "chosen" for the stage. Those who are chosen get a make-over (brief - make-up, and hair), a 15 min vocal coaching session, and a coaching session on stage while rehearsing their song for the show.
