Jan. 30, 1996 – The “Olde World Antiques” shop closed in Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Jan. 30, 1998 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures film “Deep Rising” was released.
Jan. 30, 2000 - The Broadband Connection closed at Innoventions East.
Jan. 30, 2000 – The halftime show at Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta, featured Disney’s “Tapestry of Nations.” The 20-minute performance at the Georgia Dome included Christine Aguilera and Enrique Iglesias singing “Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand.” Phil Collins entertained the Atlanta crowds with his “Two Worlds” from Disney’s “Tarzan.” Later The St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner exclaimed “I’m going to Disney World!” after his team defeated the Tennessee Titans, 23-16.
Jan. 30, 2001 - Disney’s “Dinosaur” was released on video and DVD.
Jan. 30, 2001 - A re-master of the original sound track of “Mary Poppins” was released.
Jan. 30, 2005 – The 32nd Annual Annie Awards were presented at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, Ca. Winners included the Disney/Pixar film “The Incredibles” of Best Animated Feature, “The Lion King 1 ½” for best Home Entertainment Production, and “Lorenzo” for Best Animated Subject Short.” “The Incredibles” also won for Animated Effects, character Animation, character Design in an Animated Feature Production, Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production, and writing in an Animated Feature Production. Disney’s “On the Front Lines” DVD won a Special Achievement Award.
Jan. 30, 2005 – Christy Carlson Romano (the voice of Kim Possible) performed in the Disneymania 3 Concert at Disney’s California Adventure.
Jan. 30, 2007 – Disney’s Racquet Club, located on the Contemporary Resort’s North Wing, was demolished to make room for a new WDW project. (The project would be unveiled in Sept. 2008 as Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.)
Jan. 30, 2009 – The Annie Awards were handed out at Royce Hall, UCLA, Westwood, Los Angeles, Ca. (Although Disney’s “Bolt” and “Wall-E” were nominated Kung Fu Panda swept many of the categories. On a happier note, John Lasseter was one of 3 awarded the Winsor McCay.)
