I used a promo code to book a premium car (Ford Crown Victoria) with Dollar Rental Car on Tuesday for a 6-day total of $230.64. I checked the site today and the same exact car is now $590.99. How did that happen overnight like that?

I don't know, but I'm sure you're thanking your lucky stars you booked it when you did!

This happens all of the time. Car prices can change hourly. I always book and go back to the site almost daily to re-book if the price goes down. Back in October I saved almost $100 on our rental with Alamo.

I never knew that was the way it worked. I might start checking back every hour. I got a car for under $100 back in September, so I've had pretty good luck.

Honesty, it could be cookies left behind on your computer. I did something similar, checked once it was cheap, checked back that same day, price had gone up, thinking something fishy was going on, I cleared my cookies and history, like magic, the price had gone back down. I don't trust car rental places anymore.

We booked our SUV for our Saturday arrival months and months ago. It was 599.00 for the week. I checked back last week, and it was down t0 297.00 for the same week. I cancelled and rebooked at the lower rate! BTW, this is Alamo we are using.

Epceddie -- I actually just got an email from Dollar advertising a Premium Car for $165.99 a week thru Feb 12. You should check the price again.

I would check back again and again until it's time to go. Rental car prices are real funny.

Ditto about the "cookies" thing. That's happened to me with other travel sites... not just rental cars.

Be glad you got the lower price

These rates, just like airfares can change at the drop of a hat. But since you got a good price, I wouldn't want to be checking back. You can drive yourself nuts. JMO:secret:

Alamo always seems to come out cheapest at the last second. Perhaps its because they release their coupon code closer to the dates you are traveling. For instance up until last week they didn't have any codes and prices were $639 for 8days in an economy class car.... the next day i searched at it was $290 for the same lenght of time and class.

I don't really check back until about 3months before... thats when they prices seem to drop almost daily
