Jan. 14, 1990 – Epcots “Person of the Century” attraction opened in Communicore West.
Jan. 14, 1994 – The Disney movie “Iron Will,” starring MacKensie Astin, Kevin Spacey, David Ogden Stiers, George Gerdes, and John Terry, was released.
Jan. 14, 2001 – Starting on this day, Disney Auctions offered Disney Parks and Resort One-of-a-Kind Collector Pins. As part of the 15-month Millennium Celebration at WDW, guests were introduced to pin trading & collecting. While the pins are no longer available at the parks, collectors can now bid for one-of-a-kind collector pins at Disney Auctions.
Jan. 14, 2003 - Disney released 4 classic films on video and DVD; “The Absent Minded Professor”; The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes”; “The Moon-Spinners”; and “The Horse In The Gray Flannel Suit.”
Jan. 14, 2005 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Now You See It…” debuted starring Alyson Michalla (of Aly & AJ), Johnny Pacar, and Frank Langella. The movie featured a cover version of the song “Do You Believe in Magic” performed by Aly & AJ.
Jan. 14, 2006 – Actress Shelly Winters passed away in Beverly Hills, Ca. A two-time Oscar winner, she appeared in Disney’s 1977 “Pete’s Dragon.”
Jan. 14, 2007 – The NFCC (the Club for Disneyana enthusiasts) hosted the World’s Largest Strictly Disneyana Show & Sale at the Crowne Plaza Resort Hotel in Garden Grove, Ca.
Jan. 14, 2007 – Emmy-winning composer Harry Cohen passed away at age 55 in Los Angeles, Ca. He orchestrated music for Disney’s live-action 2006 feature “The Shaggy Dog,” and composed music for both the 1998 “Belles Magical World” and the 1994 TV series “Aladdin.”
Jan. 14, 2008 – Starting on this day (and continuing through the next 10 days) Imagineers field tested a wireless device at WDW known as the Disney Magic Connection. (The hand-held unit has the potential to inform guests in real time what the current wait time is at a specific attraction! It would also let visitors know whether there are any FastPasses left for a particular attraction, and when they would be available. Sixty families were randomly chosen each day at the Magic Kingdom to participate in the program.)
Jan. 14, 2011 – The “Disney Dream” cruise ship docked in Costa Rica for the first time and was greeted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
