Dec. 31, 1962 – In this day’s issue of Newsweek magazine, Walt Disney talked about plans of creating an attraction at Disneyland for “all of the Disney characters, so everyone can see them…I have in mind a theater, and the figures will not only put on the show but be sitting in the boxes with the visitors, heckling. I don’t know just when I’ll do that.” (Almost a decade later, “The Mickey Mouse Reviue” would open at WDW.)
Dec. 31, 1969 – The Disney film “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes” was released.
Dec. 31, 1971 – The very first Magic Kingdom New Year’s Eve Party was held at WDW from 8pm to 2am.
Dec. 31, 1975 – A record 82,404 guests visited WDW on this day!
Dec. 31, 1980 – A record-setting 92,969 guests visited WDW on this day!
Dec. 31, 1983 – The Disney TV show “The Wise One” aired for the first time in Canada.
Dec. 31, 1990 – The Disneyland show “Dick Tracy Starring in Diamond Double Cross” closed in Videopolis.
Dec. 31, 1992 – The “8Trax”nightclub opened at Pleasure Island in WDW.
Dec. 31, 1994 – WDW’s New Year’s Eve entertainment included Buster Poindexter, Fleetwood Mac, Peabo Bryson, and the Marshall Tucker Band at Pleasure Island.
Dec. 31, 1995 – The “World of Motion” Pavilion in Epcot at WDW closed. The attraction had 24 scenes and 188 Audio-Animatronic figures. (It would be replaced by Test Track.)
