Dec. 16, 1859 – Writer and linguist Wilhelm Grimm, along with his brother Jacob were the first to write down such classic tales as “Snow White,” “Cinderella,” and “Sleeping Beauty,” died in Berlin, Germany.
Dec. 16, 1903 – Hardie Albright, one of the voices of Disney’s “Bambi,” was born in Charleroi, Pa.
Dec. 16, 1929 – The Walt Disney Studios were incorporated as a partnership and replaced by four companies: Walt Disney Productions, Ltd.; Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment Company; and the Disney Film Recording Company.
Dec. 16, 1929 – Disney Silly Symphony cartoon “The Merry Dwarfs” was released.
Dec. 16, 1937 – Actress Joyce Bulifant was born in Newport News, Va. Best known for her role of Marie Slaughter (Murry’s wife) on the classic series Mary Tyler Moore, Bulifant appeared in Disney’s 1967 live-action feature “The Happiest Millionaire.”
Dec. 16, 1949 – Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Toy Tinkers” was released.
Dec. 16, 1952 – WED Enterprises was founded as a private company owned solely by Walt Disney to design and create Disneyland. (In 1986, it would be known as Walt Disney Imagineering.)
Dec. 16, 1953 – Disney’s animated “Peter Pan” was released in Italy.
Dec. 16, 1954 – In an official memo to J. Edgar Hoover (Director of Federal Bureau of Investigation) dated on this day, Los Angeles agent John Malone of the Los Angeles Field Division recommended that Walt Disney be made a Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Contact. (Walt would be approved for that role on Jan. 12, 1955).
Dec. 16, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Tday is Talent Round-Up Day” on ABC-TV.
