Dec. 9, 1962 – The Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color aired part-2 of “The Mooncussers” on NBC-TV.
Dec. 9, 1970 – Singer-songwriter, record producer, and TV personality Kara DioGuardi was born in Ossining, N.Y. She’s written songs for such Disney acts as Hilary Duff, Raven-Symone, Diana DeGarmo, Jesse McCartney, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, and Demi Lovato.
Dec. 9, 1971 – Executive Airlines (one of two airlines with service to STOLport – Walt Disney World’s own airstrip) eliminated their Southern Region which includes service within Florida.
Dec. 9, 1985 – Pixar was incorporated on the state of California.
Dec. 9, 1992 – The National Hockey League awarded Disney a hockey franchise (the team would become known as The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim).
Dec. 9, 1994 – Disney animators moved into their Riverside Drive building in Hollywood, Ca. The building became known as “The Hat Building” because it featured the large conical “Scorcerer’s Hat” at the front entrance.
Dec. 9, 1994 – The restaurant “Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café” opened in Tomorrowland at WDW replacing the “Tomorrowland Terrace.”
Dec. 9, 1994 – The Disneyana Fun Fair took place at the West Coast Anaheim Hotel.
Dec. 9, 1996 – Walt Disney Records released “Dog Songs,” in celebration of Walt Disney Pictures live-action “101 Dalmatians.” It featured performances by such artists as Lobo, Patti Page, The Monkees, Harry Nilsson, and Dr. John.
Dec. 9, 2002 – “Disney’s Aladdin – Live On Stage” began performances at the Hyperion Theatre in Disney’s California Adventure.
