Oct. 15, 1954 – The Disney cartoon “Social Lion” was released.
Oct. 15, 1961 – The Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color aired “Chico, the Mismatched Coyote,” on NBC-TV.
Oct. 15 1964 – Voice actor-musician Quinton Flynn was born in Cleveland, Oh. He is the voice of Timon in Disney’s “Timon & Pumbaa” TV series.
Oct. 15, 1969 – Actress/singer/dancer Paige Davis was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Known best as the host of Trading Spaces, she also toured for 2 ½ yrs as “Babette” in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” (She actually met her husband Patrick Page, who portrayed “Lumiere the Candlestick,” while on tour with the musical.)
Oct. 15, 1971 – LIFE magazine presented an article on the newly opened Disney World in Florida. A photo of 1,500 Disney employees, posing in front of Cinderella’s Castle, was featured on the cover. The issue also included a pull-out poster sponsored by Eastern Airlines of the new Magic Kingdom.
Oct. 15, 1972 – English actor/singer Gavin Lee, best known for his award-winning role of Bert in both the West End and Broadway productions of “Mary Poppins,” was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England.
Oct. 15, 1985 – “The Walt Disney Comedy and Magic Revue” was released on VHS and Beta.
Oct. 15, 1990 – The serial on the Mickey Mouse Club “My Life as a Babysitter” began airing on the Disney Channel. (Ran through Nov. 9, 1990)
Oct. 15, 1996 – The “Main Street Electrical Parade” at Disneyland had its last performance.
Oct. 15, 1997 – Previews began for Disney’s live stage show “The Lion King.” The Times Square Disney Store, connected to the New Amsterdam Theatre in N.Y.C. was filled with Lion King merchandise.
