Just read at a reputable source that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will go down for refurb Jan 9 through May 28. Didn't see this anywhere else on this site, so I thought I'd post it.

Add this to Dumbo going down for a month mid-Jan through mid-Feb, plus the typical Splash Mountain shut down in Jan-Feb, the Magic Kingdom won't be quite as magical this coming winter.

Almost glad I didn't have enough money for my typical winter trip this time around. Almost:cool:

Doesn't Big Thunder always go down....and up...and down...and around....

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

BTMRR refurb does show on wdw site but SM does not, maybe they're switching them out this year?

You're so close on those dates. It's scheduled as of today, to be up and running on the 28th. But what's one day. The reopening date will probably change anyway.

Apparently Splash will not have its annual refurb because Thunder will be down. I've seen reports of that in many places.

Yeah this pretty much guarantee's that Splash won't go down during the time of BTMRR's refurb, at the very least not more than a couple days. No way would they ever have both closed at the same time for a long period of time...

Hopefully they'll fix the earthquake scene... :mickey:

:fit: Oh no! This might be a dealbreaker for us. I had expected Spash to be closed and was mildly bummed, but Big Thunder is a must-do for everyone in my family. Argh.

good thing we plan on heading to MK on Jan 8th. we'll have to get our ride in on that day before it goes down on Monday!

This is fantastic news. It should have happened a long time ago, and there's no excuse for the state the ride is in now, but at least Disney is finally doing something about it. Between this and the rumored Test Track overhaul next summer, I think we really are starting to see progress.
