Oct. 5, 1955 – The Disneyland TV series aired a compilation of many of the “People and Places-Tiburon, Sardinia, Morocco, Icebreakers” movie shorts that had been previously shown in theaters.
Oct. 5, 1955 – The Disney film “Music Land,” a grouping of selected shorts from “Make Mine Music” and “Melody Time”was released by RKO.
Oct. 5, 1974 – Actress & Singer Heather Headley was born in Trinadad, West Indies. In 1997 she would play Nala in “The Lion King,” the Broadway Musical. Headley would later originate the title role in the Broadway adaptation of Disney’s “Aida,” earning a Tony Award for Best Actress in 2000!
Oct. 5, 1975 – Actress Parminder Nagra, who appears as the flight director in Epcot’s “Mission Space,” was born in Leicester, England. (You may recognize her from the film “Bend It Like Beckham” and the TV series ER.)
Oct. 5, 1975 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “The Secret of the Pond” aired. (Part-2 aired Oct. 12, 1975)
Oct. 5, 1977 – The “Adventureland Veranda” Restaurant was officially sponsored by Kikkoman.
Oct. 5, 1982 – The attraction “World of Motion” was officially dedicated at Epcot.
Oct. 5, 1986 – Disney’s 2-hour TV movie “Little Spies” aired.
Oct. 5, 1992 – “The Walt Disney Story” attraction on Main Street at WDW closed.
Oct. 5, 1992 – Animation storyboard artist and voice actor Joe Ranft was hired at Pixar. (After graduating from high school in 1978, Ranft began studying in the character animation program at the California Institute of the Arts. After two years, Ranft’s student film Good Humor caught the attention of Disney animation executives, who offered him a job. During his years at Disney, Ranft did story work on animated features including “The Lion King,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
