Aug. 17, 1986 – “Luxo Jr.,” the first film produced in 1986 by Pixar Animation Studios (following its establishment as an independent film studio) was released. A computer-animated short film (Just 2 minutes 30 seconds long with the credits) was John Lasseter’s directorial debut. It would be re-released in 1999 along with “Toy Story 2.”
Aug. 17. 1990 – The Disney Channel Premiere Film “The Little Kidknappers,” aired.
Aug. 17, 1990 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures Film “Taking Care of Business” was released.
Aug. 17, 1991 – Disney’s unsold TV pilot “Acting Sheriff” aired on CBS.
Aug. 17, 1992 – Original Mouseketeer Annette Funicello appeared on the cover of People magazine.
Aug. 17, 1999 – Disney released “Belle’s Tales of Friendship” direct-to-video.
Aug. 17, 1999 – Disney’s “Hercules: Zero to Hero” featuring three classic stories from the TV series was released on video.
Aug. 17, 1999 – The “Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival” aired on TV with an hour-long special.
Aug. 17, 1999 – The Disney Wonder made its first call on Castaway Cay.
Aug. 17, 2001 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Jumping Ship” premiered.
