Aug. 6, 1999 – Disneyland’s “Monorail Café” (part of the Disneyland Hotel) closed after 44 years on this day. It would be removed to make room for the new Downtown Disney.
Aug. 6, 2002 – Disney’s “The Adventures of Tom Thumb & Thumbelina,” featuring the voices of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Elijah Wood, was released direct-to –video.
Aug. 6, 2003 - “Freaky Friday” was released in theaters starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, and Mark Harmon.
Aug. 6, 2004 – “Phenomonally Yours,” the 9th “Phil of the Future” episode, aired for the first time on the Disney Channel.
Aug. 6, 2004 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Tiger Cruise” aired for the first time.
Aug. 6, 2006 – The new Disney TV series “Three Moons Over Milford” made its debut on ABC Family.
Aug. 6, 2007 – Business Week magazine announced the Interband marking of the 100 Best Global Brands, with Disney being number 9.
Aug. 6, 2009 – It was announced that the two young sisters from Santa Clarita, Ca. have won a contest to spend a night in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion! (Jessica, 12, and Stephanie Sutton, 10, would be joined by their parents, Cyndi and Tim Sutton, in the mansion on Sunday (Aug. 9th), the ride’s 40th anniversary.
Aug. 6, 2009 – Film director, producer, and writer John Hughes passed away at the age of 59 in N.Y.C. His Disney credits included “Flubber” and “101 Dalmatians.”
Aug. 6, 2010 – ENCORE presented “Dream Our Dreams – a Musical Tribute” to the legacy of Disney at Epcot. (3-day event)
