Aug. 6, 1999 – Disneyland’s “Monorail Café” (part of the Disneyland Hotel) closed after 44 years on this day. It would be removed to make room for the new Downtown Disney.

(Jessica, 12, and Stephanie Sutton, 10, would be joined by their parents, Cyndi and Tim Sutton, in the mansion on Sunday (Aug. 9th), the ride’s 40th anniversary.
Aug. 6, 2009 – Film director, producer, and writer John Hughes passed away at the age of 59 in N.Y.C. His Disney credits included “Flubber” and “101 Dalmatians.”
