Hello, sorry if I am beating a dead horse. I am new on this discussion board, but have loved the site for years and have been visiting WDW for almost 40 years. I thought a good way to break the ice at my first ever WDW forum might be to mention my favorite attractions from the past and see what others might be. I really look forward to reading your answers.

There are so many attractions that I miss, but I would have to say that the ride I have missed the most is Skyway, and a close second would be World of Motion.

honorable mentions:
If You Had Wings
Horizons
The Plaza Swan Boats

And a thumbs up if you remember the small steam train in Fort Wilderness Campground.

:welcome: to Intercot!

I miss Horizons, World of Motion, Kitchen Kabaret, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, original version of JII, the previous narration (Jeremy Irons) of SSE (I liked the scenes as you were 'returning to Earth'), and also miss the previous narration of TTA.

Change is good, but I miss the 're-rideability' of some of the classic attractions. Some of the newer attractions are cool, but I'm just not that interested in experiencing them over and over again. I like attention to detail in some of the attractions - you usually see or hear something new on each experience.

I would say Mr. Toad's Wild ride and Horizons.

Hmmm, well thinking back to Epcot of old, I'd definitely say World of Motion.

Wonder if anyone will say the Mickey Mouse Revue? :D

I have a movie of my wife and me walking through the international Gateway where we heard a cast member telling someone that "Yesterday was the final day for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride." We were so depressed that we didnt hit it again the previous day. We had no idea that it was being closed, and in fact wondered why there was such an unusually long line the previous day.

We did however find out just in time before the original Journey into Imagination shut down and was able to get a final journey on it.

I cant believe I forgot to mention the original Main Street Electrical Parade. I remember we use to watch it on the curb, way before the days of having to camp out on the curb hours before the parade came by. Although it has changed, I am so excited to have my daughters finally see the parade that matches the music they have been listening to for 9 years.

First I thank you all for the warm welcomes. Next, yes, what a great show, although the explosion with Donald Duck use to scare me to death. :)

LOL! I had never seen it in Florida, but saw it in Tokyo a few years back, as it moved there after closing here. Maybe if I'd seen it earlier in my life I'd have a better appreciation and some nostalgia attached, but boy is the technology crazy outdated. It was almost painful to watch. It's now closed there as well to make way for Philharmagic.

gotta vote for my faves...

1.Body Wars-Some people complained that it was too rough, but I say the human body isn't always pleasant. :D

2.World of Motion-It's not that Test Track isn't great. On the contrary, it's one of my faves. Still there's nothing better than a great dark ride with a good story.

3.El Rio Del Tiempo-I always liked this ride. It was a nice sitdown in a great pavilion, it told a decent story, had some really good animatronics, and was in my favorite park. Then for some reason they felt the need to dumb it down to below elementary school mindset and zap the culture and history out of it. Oh the humanity...:ambal:

4.The OLD Backlot Tour-I was lucky enough to see this one in '95 and it was such a neat thing for a teenager to see. Fast forward to today and I'm not really sure why it's still there if half the attraction is gone. I say revamp or move on.

Geez, that sounded harsh lol. With all that said there is nothing better than WDW, and there is so little I would change about it. I just like to reminisce a little...

My memories of missing attractions are precious because of the people with whom I shared the attractions...including some of the ones going with me this week. Horizons was a great ride, but sharing it with our kids made it even better....
If You Had Wings brings back special memories of our first trip, and the many rides DD#2 shared with her DGM...
And World of Motion was a personal favorite..at the time, I ranked it with POTC as a favorite.
I enjoyed the DL version of 20,000 Leagues more (perhaps because I was studying Oceanography at Post Grad School at the time), but the MK version was cool, too. Lines were too long, and often in the sun, and it wasn't a big hit with most of the family.

Sandman,

I do miss World of Motion. I loved how the ride spiraled outside, and I personally think it is sad to slowly see all the taste of 80s architecture and design disappear. For a good taste of that same design, I like the bathroom area in the Electric umbrella, it still has that same wall to wall and ceiling to floor carpeting that reminds me of my grandmother, rest her soul.:cloud9:

Yes, the technology for the Mickey Mouse Review is certainly outdated to today's standards but as a kid, I couldn't believe that I was able to see all the Disney characters like that together. I remember wanting to see it but holding my hands over my ears because it was too noisy for me. To think of all that has been housed there since its departure.

Talk about outdated technology, I remember thinking how comical the attraction Mission to Mars was. I couldn't believe how corny the attraction was and to think it remained there for close to 20 years. I actually have faint memories of when it was to the "moon." :D

What I think is interesting is how the basic layout of the Alien Encounter and now Stitch's Great Escape still can remind me of the Mission to Mars theater.

You hit the nail on the head. I too miss these extinct attractions not so much because they were thrilling or amazing in anyway, but because they remind me of the people I rode them with. Earlier I mentioned about a hallway in the Electric Umbrella that reminded me of my grandmother, and that was because I can remember her often watching us in that hall while my mother was changing one of my younger siblings in that bathroom. :)

Oh my...where to start? I liked the Skyway as long as I was in it and not under it! :D Liked 20,000 Leagues as long as I could get on 1st thing in the AM  But my fave lost attraction is not really an attraction. I loved the old River Country. The new water parks are great! Love Summitt PLummett and SharK Reef. But there was just something more relaxing about the "old fashioned swimmming hole" atmosphere that I really enjoyed! Was sorry to see it go. :(

Welcome and nice topic.

I didn't start going to WDW until many of the classic attractions mentioned earlier (World of Motion, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, etc.) were already replaced.

However, the attraction I miss most is Alien Encounter. I remember being blown away the first time I rode it.

Another ride I miss is Cranium Command. My DD8 would love that ride on this upcoming trip.

On another note: I miss Donald's Breakfast Restaurasaurus at AK.

Well, I only started going to the parks in 2003 but here are my couple....

1. The ride in Mexico Epcot-can't remember the name but I am not a fan of the replacement

2. Alien Encounter-although I don't seem to hate Stitch as much as some on here, I admit that Alien Encounter was somewhat better.

3. Toontown-I will miss this quite a bit

I miss seeing Future Corps in Epcot. Being a Drum Corps fan (hence the name), there was something appealing about playing in a drum corps that got paid, instead of having to pay!

And a thumbs up if you remember the small steam train in Fort Wilderness Campground.

1971 - I was right behind you in 1972 at Fort Wilderness Campground!

I was also lucky enough to ride the Ft. Wilderness Steam Train with our Dad who was also a Southern Railroad Man!

I miss several things from the past....MOSTLY the "Ports O Call "and the "Southern Seas"! :sail:
They were the two actual Steam Driven sidewheel Paddle Boats that traveled the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. During the day one took guest departing from out front of the Magic Kingdom on the WORLD CRUISE and later took guest to DISCOVEY ISLAND located between the Contemporary Resort and Fort Wilderness Campground. An actual island filled with birds, different animals, plants and flowers with a winding pathway around the island.
Disney's FIRST Animal Kingdom!

At night, one of the two Steam Boats carried guest around the quiet DISNEY waters on the MOONLIGHT CRUISE. Picking up guest from the Contemporary, Fort Wilderness and the Polynesian Resort docks, they were taken on a night time excursion with the perfect view of the Electrical Water Pageant and the Magic Kingdom Fireworks. Hot and Cold Drinks, Snacks and Adult Beverages were served from bar aboard the Ports O Call/Southern Seas.
I can still hear the sound of the paddle wheels pushing the 100 foot Steam Boat through the water without another sound to be heard!

The Skyway at night!
Nick Russo and Gabriel's Brass - Fantasy Land behind Dumbo
Wedway People Mover
The Original "Now is the time, Now is the Best time" from GE Carrousel
AND YES....The Penny Arcade crank movies!

Another thumbs up to those that remember the Chinese Junk that used to port at the Polynesian Village and was available for private charters. You'll never guess who Disney bought it from???

1. Horizons
2. Journey into Imagination (original)
3. Dreamflight
4. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
5. The original O Canada (and not the urban tourism board version with Martin Short.)

This might sound funny, but I really REALLY miss the original red white and yellow plastic shopping bags. It is amazing how these things change over time, and I will always cherish the original Walt Disney World Font, like this (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2sYXHRFeJNk/Rp1g_ty7tVI/AAAAAAAABlA/Dsnac0HQ3zk/s1600/retrowdw800x600.jpg).

I agree! I LOVED the old Backlot Tour. It really captured my imagination back in 1989. I LOVED the Honey I Shrunk the Kid part, seeing the behind the scenes work, seeing them ACTUALLY tape shows for the Disney Channel and all of the houses (yay Golden Girls house!).

I also REALLY, REALLY miss Who Wants to Be A Millionaire! I was always SOOOO close to getting up there (perpetually #2 on the leaderboard)! One time my brother-in-law got into the Hot Seat! So much fun!

ALSO, I really miss the original Journey Into Your Imagination and exit area (the rainbow tunnel and the tables where you put your hands on the pins were the best!).

I may be in the minority, but I LOVED Alien Encounter. It scared the **** out of me! On a school trip, we tricked a nun who was chaperoning us to join us on the ride! Boy was she scared (but she LOVED it!).

Finally, I also miss the Superstar Television attraction at the old MGM. I haven't seen it since I was a little kid back when it first opened, but I loved it. My dad was picked to be a news anchor. I was bummed I couldn't be up there with Lucy Ricardo for the chocolate factory scene!

This is my first post too and I thought posting to this discussion would be appropriate since I've lately been reminiscing about old attractions that I used to love. Since EPCOT is by far my favorite of the parks, the attractions there are my favorites. I miss the old Horizons pavillion, Wonders of Life pavillion, The Living Seas pavillion, and World of Motion pavillion. While some of the attractions that are there now are great, it's hard to compare to those that are gone or closed because they held to the original purpose of EPCOT to be a community of tomorrow - not another amusement park. Yes, education was a large part of it, but there was so much more interaction than there is now. I wish they would reopen the second floor of the Imagination pavillion - the Image Works. I can't believe that whole section of the building is closed off. The memories.

Sorry to post so many times in a row, but I totally forgot - Character Breakfast on the Empress Lily!

I miss the Epcot pavilion concept, rather than just a bunch of rides in FutureLand.

Rides i Miss- Old Universe of Energy Movie with the rubix cube screen.
Horizons
20,000 Leagues is my number 1 overall ride i miss.
Mr. Toad,
I miss calling POR Dixie Landings, and DHS MGM.
Also, I don't like the hat thing at DHS.
If the tiki room never opens again, i'll be unhappy camper.

Wow! This one is tough and a little painful.
I miss If You Had Wings, World of Motion, the original Journey into Imagination, Alien Encounter but one I haven't seen mentioned is the old People Mover. You remember, the one where you could actually see parts of the rides in Tomorrowland. Now, the windows into the rides seem to be in odd places and there's absolutely nothing to see anymore in Space Mountain. Once upon a time you could peek into Wings and see some exotic locale, then mosey by and see what was on the stage next to what is now Buzz to see if you were interested and you could check out the line in Space Mountain and get a little thrill watching the glowing cars zoom around the track. Now, if you aren't outside there's nothing to see anywhere. It's not like the Imagineers didn't know what the view from the track was going to be. Couldn't they have planned the new attractions a little more People Mover friendly?

I miss the old audio. Well, part of the redesign, is for example, Lilo. Nothing to see if you are on the ride :) If they ever take out the PeopleMover, Monsters Inc. might be the only thing that makes me come over to Tomorrowland, and thats just a maybe.

This could get to be a long list for me. lol So here goes, JasonH's List of Attractions Now Gone!

Spaceship Earth as narrated by both Walter Kronkite (love Tomorrow's Child) and Jeremy Irons
Communicore East & West (Including Epcot Poll)
Original Universe Of Energy (although I do love Ellen's Energy Adventure, I do miss the original and I did like it)
Wonders Of Life Pavilion (I miss just about everything in there, but not so much Body Wars )
Horizons (If we can dream it, we can do it!)
World Of Motion (Now things really get rolling! It's fun to be free!)
The Living Seas (I do miss the original way this place was but I do like the addition of Nemo to it all as it helps bring in the kids to have fun there too)
Kitchen Kabaret and Food Rocks (Bring back Bonnie Appetite and Fud Wrapper!)
The original Journey Into Imagination (Figment & Dreamfinder....nuff said :figment::figment::figment:)
El Rio Del Tiempo (I thought it was good enough as it was and perhaps only needed to update the video as you could tell that it was from the early 80's thanks to the hairstyles and clothing lol)
The Penny Arcade and Magic Shop (Loved stopping at both to spend some small change for big fun and looking at the neat items in the shop...still got my glow-in-the-dark vulture plaque that I bought at the Magic Shop hanging on my wall with price sticker still on the back)
Mike Fink Keelboats (Loved going on those but never got to ride on the top, always the bottom b/c my mom was afraid of heights.)
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Always loved having that imagination kicking in and thinking we really went deep into the water and having Captain Nemo guide us through.)
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (If any ride was brought back to MK, this would be the one I want the most!!)
The Skyway between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland
Extra-terrorestial Alien Encounter (I thought this was a great addition to MK as it gave a darker side to all the fun and a great cast to back it up too.)
The Timekeeper (A great 360 movie and again a great cast for it as well!)
If You Had Wings and Dreamflight (Loved both of em, rode Dreamflight one time for 3 times in a row :D)
Dick Tracy Stageshow (Dick Tracy had just been released into theaters and then Disney-MGM Studios decided to have a stageshow for it. It was excellent to me and very catchy tunes.)
Superstar Television 1 (Got to experience this not only as an audience member, but first-hand as well.....3 different times!! Twice as the butler getting hit with a pie in the 3 Stooges scene and once as a federal agent in the Golden Girls scene.)
Monster Sound Show (Loved Chevy Chase and Martin Short in this and I even got picked once to do some of the sound effects!)
The original Backlot Tour (It's just not the way it used to be and has really lost its pizzaz.)
Orginal Star Tours (I only say this b/c of the memories I have of it, including having rode it 30 times in a row during a Star Wars Weekends Challenge that you had to sign up for.)

A couple honorable mentions: Listen To The Land and any previous versions of Carousel Of Progress from here on until it is decided to go away which hopefully it doesn't. :D

So there's my list of attractions from the past that I loved and miss and would love to be able to experience again.

Mickey Mouse Revue was something I'll never ,y only opportunity, 1973, cause I returned in 1988 and it was already gone. I was really sad about it. I remember I loved everything, even the preshow hall with the statues.

I just read the show ran until it was closed on September 14, 1980. But does anybody know why it was closed? I can't believe it was because of low audience (if so then why it is running in Tokio!)

I miss something you could only really experience from the air. The giant hidden Mickey at the Disney MGM Studios. You can still see remnants of it from satellite pictures. It's right where the hat is now. One of the ears was Echo Lake, and you can still clearly see one of his eyes, between the hat and Echo Lake. They had the other ear painted on the roof of the Hollywood Brown Derby. I always thought it was neat to stand in the middle of Mickey's face, and I was one of the only people around me who knew.

I was checking old WDW videos in youtube, like the 1971 Grand Opening special, and saw clips from parades of the 70s, and realize there are characters that I've not seen in recent visits, like the Flower & Thumper from Bambi movie. I thought those are characters gone from the parks, too. But I finally found pictures of a Easter Pre-Parade, and there's a rabbit that looks like Thumper. Don't know if it was just for Easter (are there always "easter" parades?)

And, are there more Disney characters you remember, that are no more in parades or meet & greets?

Exactly, same as me. And Mickey Mouse Review too. I think that if some day I go to Tokyo, and visit Tokyo Disneyland, my first attraction would be MMR, and I'll definitely cry. Remember that first trip, when I was 7yo, remember my late mother, etc.

I also miss Cranium Command. One of my favourite shows after Food Rocks. That was always one of my favourite things to do along with walking around the Wonders of Life pavillion. The year after the pavillion closed I really wanted to ride Body Wars, which really makes me regret riding it when I had the chance.

Exactly, same as me. And Mickey Mouse Review too. I think that if some day I go to Tokyo, and visit Tokyo Disneyland, my first attraction would be MMR, and I'll definitely cry. Remember that first trip, when I was 7yo, remember my late mother, etc.:(

Removed from TD?? OMG!! Now life has no sense!! :( I mean I enjoy Philarmagic, and I never complained that much about many attractions they replaced, but Mickey Mouse Review is as classic as Country Bear or Small World. I never found out how closing MMR made sense.

As some others say this is a tough one. Been going so long that there are quite a number of attractions gone that I miss. But the most missed probably are:

Kitchen Kabaret (veggie veggie fruit fruit, miss that song)
World of Motion
Horizons
Timekeeper
Original Journey Into Imagination
Discovery Island
Cranium Command

Thank god for youtube because there are a lot of Disney attractions I never got to experience that I would've liked such as Country Bears holiday/summer specials, Mickey Mouse Revue, America Sings in DL, etc.

I just read the show ran until it was closed on September 14, 1980. But does anybody know why it was closed? I can't believe it was because of low audience (if so then why it is running in Tokio!)They replaced it with Magic Journeys after Captain EO took over the Magic Eye Theater at Imagination at EPCOT.

The "rabbit" in the Easter pre-parade thing from a few years back is the Easter Bunny :)

There *used* to be a whole Easter parade at Magic Kingdom on Easter Sunday, and it was even televised live for a few years. Now, I believe it's just a "pre-parade" thing for the afternoon parade, and features the "Southern Belles" from what used to be Cypress Gardens down in Lake Wales.

Disney characters you don't see any more?

Three Little Pigs
AristoCats
Thumper and Flower
Seven Dwarfs (not much any more, except maybe the parades)
Bert from Mary Poppins
Country Bears aren't much any more, if at all
Bre'r Rabbit, Bre'r Fox, and Bre'r Bear
...and I'm sure there's many, *many* more...this is what I could think of right off the top of my head :)

Thumper and his girlfriend show up at Camp Minnie Mickey sometimes these days, and this past January I saw Brer Bear in Frontierland.

No. 1 miss for me is Mr. Toad's and 20,000 leagues in at second. If only they could just expand and never replace things it would be super but sadly its not an option.
They should buy some little area, call it Yersterland and put all the retired attractions there. I bet they would make bank at least for a little while.

I support the idea, it would be great.
