I know how staying on property & making dinner reservations work.

Have friends not staying on property. How can they do their reservations 180 days out, if that is an option. Really I have NO idea how people who stay off property do dinner reservations. Please let me know how this systems works.

Thanks

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it works like this.
If you are staying on site at 180 days from your first day, you can make up to 10 days worth of dinning reservations.
If you are staying off site you can make your ressies 180 days out, but if you were staying for 10 days, then you would have to call at 180 days for each day. You would only be able to make one ressie a day.

I think that is the way it works.

Exactly! Those staying off-site can make dining reservations 180-days in advance, either online or by calling into Disney.

Those staying onsite get the "perk" of booking for their whole vacation at one time (up to 10 days), while those off-site have to call each day. However, there is no other difference ... everything is available to those staying off site, just like those staying at Disney resorts.
