So I was just reading the thread about the most frightening things people have seen at WDW, and I read about the ghost story at POTC. Someone posted a photograph showing what appears to be said ghost, and another commented about how it's a rumor among the cast members. Can anyone give me anymore information on this story, or maybe if anyone's actually seen it or come in contact with it? :hmghost:

The "ghost" you are referring to is George. I've never heard of any pictures taken supposedly of George, but he's one of the favorite superstitions at the POTC ride. Supposedly George was a construction worker who was killed while working on the initial construction of the ride (I've never seen verification of that). The superstition is that the CMs have to say goodnight to George or the ride won't work right the next day (I've never asked any POTC CMs if they actually do). Another superstition is that if you say "I don't believe in George" while in the building the ride won't work right for you. There's also the tale that sometimes George can be seen in the darkness just before the drop. Hardly scary stuff, but that's what you were referring to.

There's other tales of ghosts at WDW (including a little girl at the Haunted Mansion), but it's been almost impossible to separate fact from overactive imaginations in terms of the origin stories.

When I was at Grad Nite '06, I took this photograph in front of POTC. If you looks very carefully, it looks like what appears to be a see-through man standing in the bottom right of the picture. Standing under the archway, directly to the right of the metal column, wearing an open black jacket. You can barely make out his face/hair. Didn't notice him until I uploaded the picture onto the computer.

Thanks, I was curious after reading the story. I'm definitely going to say "I don't believe in George" when I'm there in June!

It took me a few minutes to find it, but if you look under the right arch, it's all the way to left. It's to the direct right of the metal pole.

i've heard this is true from people who worked there, that they say goodnight to him, usually a manager will do it. Kind of spooky

Have you ever actually seen, heard of, or experienced POTC not working after any of this? Or actually seen George?

This will be something fun to do on our next trip. I am going to try it!

Nope. No personal experience there. It's one of those stories that has all the hallmarks of an urban legend so I really don't pay any attention to this one. I've done plenty of work with a paranormal research team and seen enough of the "real" thing to not be too impressed with these urban legends other than just in fun.

Oh, sure. There's the little blond girl seen around Spaceship Earth and a little boy is sometimes seen with her. She (and they) are sometimes seen suddenly sitting along in an empty car. There's the "mysterious gentleman" at Tower of Terror who is see usually walking backwards. At Haunted Mansion supposedly you see a little boy crying near the exit and also a teenager was supposedly killed after trying to jump out of the Doombuggy in the Seance Room and now sometimes strange things will happen there. Those are all of the WDW ghost stories I can think of right now. There's a few for Disneyland, too, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

You would not believe the number of people who actually try to do that. It's illegal but CM's are having to catch and escort guests out on a somewhat regular basis trying to do that very thing. I think Disney is missing out on a HUGE moneymaking opportunity. Just let real guests be buried at the haunted mansion for a fee. They'd make a ton of money. :mickey:

I posted this once before but I felt I should share it again!

I believe it was extra evening hours because it was really late and really dark outside. We decided to burn off some calories from our dole whips on the Swiss family Robinson treehouse walkthrough. We were up near one of the little tree house rooms and I thought I saw a shadow of a person (thought maybe they added a life-size doll as decor) As I got closer I realized it was a real person In a black hooded sweatshirt just standing there facing towards aladdin carpets/adventureland. They didn't flinch when we passed by them so I never saw their face. We were both really creeped out and so as we went up a bit further we stopped and looked back and he/she was nowhere in sight. And we looked all the way down and nobody was around. We got off so fast and we have never gone near that tree again...

The problem is, there's not much to add beyond what I have. There's several different versions of each story, but no real details. Just typical urban legend kind of stuff. But, if you want to know anything specific, I'll be glad to try to answer if I can.

I took a look at the picture and can make what looks to be like a man standing there. Kinda cool. I love urban legend ghost stories. On my next trip I'll try to take the same picture when no one is around and see what comes up...

I have NEVER been a believer in paranormal activities and or ghosts. I don't watch any of the ghost shows and never have had any desire. My friend and I just stayed 2 nights at the Contemporary with a lagoon/pool view.My friend is very spiritual, however I am the opposite. The first night there was a meteor shower, so we got up around 3 am to watch it. It was cool since we saw a few and Jupiter was right in front of us. I started to just look around and to the right of us was the smaller tower (not sure what the name of it was) and there were 3 small roofs over the entrance which then became a walkway of glass. I looked at the one directly over the entrance and thought I saw someone sitting up there and told my friend. She didn't notice at first, but did notice a man sitting or whatever it was doing about a yard or so below them. He was very eery, with a white face, almost a white mohawk and and I am going to sound crazy, but almost like black spikes sticking out of his head. He just sat there, sometimes moving his head to the left and right...he looked like someone out of Halloween Horror nights. However, there were people coming in and out of the entrance with luggage and walking right past him which we thougth was odd. By this time my friend spotted the man/boys on the roof, which by this time had become 2. We didn't know if we should call security, since we were worried they may jump down and try to rob guests leaving or if they were just teens on something just up there to watch the show as well. They sat there as more guests left and did nothing to show harm. As it got a bit later/earlier I noticed they were not there anymore. A while later as it started to become lighter, I watched as the two returned to the roof, I could not tell how they were getting up so easily as it could not be easy. I decided to take my camera out which has really good zoom and get a closer look..I zoomed in a bit too far and got the fabric of ones jeans and zoomed out to follow up his body to a flannel shirt and onto his face in which he had an eery smile on his mouth and biting a cigar, as I moved up I was shocked in horror to see a completely demonic face out of a horror movie, deformaty, and completely SHOCKING and freaked me out and I screamed and I put my camera down and watched as they jumped off the roof. We spoke to security, did not mention anything we suspected as paranormal, but warned them about possible solicitation. Night # 2....unwinding from the Halloween Party, on the balcony again. My friend was trying to take pictures from the balcony to the roof we saw the boys or whatever they were the night before. However no matter which waay she took them she could not capture that roof. All of a sudden she got really weird and gasped "OMG"..I kept asking her what. but she kept telling me to hold on..she took about ten pictures..in the first few pictures were a figure of a dark skinny old man with some kind of fabric around his shoulders. The first couple of shots he was looking down, but the last he was looking at the camera and his eyes were huge and white and not normal. In other pictures, there were obvious other figures, men dressed in suits, women in long white dressings, one in fact hanging from a tree and even choldren. Some looked angry, while others sad and lost. They were all ghostly pictures, not like the men we saw before. One picture with writing in it that we could not make out. She started to freak out because she saw a girl, who she sensed was ****** at us...like I said I am not spiritual but she somehow knew the girl was ****** and I could not see her and she said she had to delete all of the pictures. I begged her to forward them to me and she did supposedly, but when I looked the next morning, they were all of the same pictures. After that, what I saw was unbelievable..on the roof of the smaller tower there was a girl wrapped in a grey blanket sitting on the edge at first by herself. For some reason I just blurted out 'Amy" is over there on the roof, like I knew that was her name. My friend spotted her immediately and watched as many more arrived..A woman wearing a long dress and bonnet was setting up cots and laying them all down, they were peaceful, and obviously not there to hurt anyone, just trapped there..We watched an old lady walk her old lab, a child read a book in a tree, absoltely amazing, confusing and scary all together. Has anyone seen anything like this or am I and my friend completely crazy...As I said, I never believed until now. Any input would be helpful, but if you are going to be negative or unkind, please dont bother...thank u!

ROTFL!! I JOKED that I wanted to be sprinkled on Splash Mountain - but the idea of it plugging up the filters or something deterred me. That is all kinds of crazy!

You would think with all the spooky names you could give a ghost, they would've come up with something better than George. Sure, sure, it's a true story. That's his real name. OK. But it shoulda been something like Jameson or Vladimir.

A few years ago guests at the Haunted Mansion would often see a man in a dark cloak and Victorian top hat walking with a cane down the "endless hallway". The guests would breathlessly report these sightings to Cast Members who would nod and say that the man was often seen there. Most of the CMs were in on the joke. The ghostly figure was Mel, a member of the maintenance team at HM, who would put on the outfit and slip into the endless hallway for an impromptu stroll. Managers at the attraction were not happy about his unauthorized appearances, but they were never able to catch him at it. Unfortunately Mel has retired, and the figure walking the hallway has not been seen again.

The last two times we have been at the Haunted Mansion, the ride stopped just as we came to the Seance Room. Now I'm beginning to wonder. :)

Even as a CM, I had always heard that the PotC CM's have to say "Good MORNING, George"; not the "Good night" that's being posted here :)

I've heard quite a bit of what you guys have already posted. Not really much to add from me... :(
