May 28, 1988 – The “Gulf Coast Room” Restaurant closed in the Contemporary Resort at WDW.
May 28, 1993 – Ground was broken at Disney-MGM Studios at WDW for the attraction “Tower of Terror.”
May 28, 1993 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures film “Super Mario Bros.” was released.
May 28, 1994 – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge opened to guests at WDW.
May 28, 1996 – The soundtrack to Disney’s animated “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” was released on Walt Disney Records.
May 28, 1999 – A new Main Street Electrical Parade made its debut at WDW (The parade was first brought to life at Disneyland in Anaheim, Ca. from 1972 to 1996.) The preview party was attended by 5,000 Floridians and celebrities such as LeVar Burton, Lacey Chabert, Carrie Fisher, Jonathan Lipnicki, and Judge Reinhold. (Longtime WDW fans may recall a version of the Main Street Electrical Parade that performed at the Magic Kingdom in 1977.)
May 28, 2002 – Disney’s “Rascal, The Journey of Natty Gann,” and “Cheetah” were released on DVD.
May 28, 2002 – Eastman Kodak Co. signed a multi-year agreement with the Walt Disney Co. that renewed the company’s long-standing relationship as the imaging supplier of film and related products.
May 28, 2004 – The 3rd of 5 consecutive Star Wars Weekends began at the Disney-MGM Studios. Special celebrity guests over the next 3 days included Anthony Daniels (who played C-3PO) and Andy Secombe (who portrayed Watto).
May 28, 2004 – The animated Disney short “Lorenzo” had its nationwide release, playing in front of raising Helen. Lorenzo, about a fat cat whose naughty manners become the cause of his own undoing, is based upon pencil sketches and a story idea created by Disney veteran Joe Grant 20 years ago.
