May 16, 1989 – The Disney Channel aired episode 17 of MMC “Guest Day” with guest star Christie Brinkley.
May 16, 1990 – Muppet creator, Jim Henson, died of pneumonia in a New York Hospital at the age of 53.
May 16, 1990 – Actor Marc John Jefferies, who appeared in the 2003 “The Haunted Mansion,” was born in N.Y.C. He also lent his voice to the 2001 “Monsters, Inc.”
May 16, 1991 – Jim Henson’s Muppet Vision 3-D opened in its 1000 seat 3-D theater at Disney-MGM Studios at WDW.
May 16, 2001 – The Disney-MGM Studios hosted the third in the Countdown Series Pin Events. The event offers more exciting pin releases and Disney artist signings.
May 16, 2002 – Pin Traders head off to sea aboard the Disney Pin Trading Cruise. The 3 night trip included “Captain Mickey’s Treasure Hunt,” a pin scavenger hunt in which guest scour the ship and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, for hidden treasures.
May 16, 2003 – The “Star Wars Weekends” began at Disney-MGM Studios in WDW. ( Ran Fri.-Sun. May 16-18 through June 13-15)
May 16, 2003 – The Disney Channel aired the Lizzie McGuire episode “My Fair Lady.”
May 16, 2003 – The 2002-2003 Daytime Emmy Awards were presented at N.Y.C.’s Radio City Music Hall. Disney’s “Teacher’s Pat” won for Outstanding Special Class Animtaed Program and actor Shia Lebeouf, of the Disney Channel’s “Even Stevens,” won for Performer in a Children’s Series.
May 16, 2005 – Tokyo DisneySea’s “Aladdin’s Whole New World” unfurled its magic carpet with a parade of floats on Mediterranean Harbor. (Ran through Aug. 31, 2005)
