Apr. 5, 1965 – At the 37th Annual Academy Awards, Julie Andrews won an Oscar for her role in Disney’s film “Mary Poppins”. The film was nominated for 13 Oscars. The film also won Academy Awards for the song “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, for Original Score Film Editing, and Special Visual Effects.
Apr. 5, 1975 – Although “Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too” was nominated in the Short Films, Animated category…Closed Mondays took home the Oscar at the 1974 Academy Awards.
Apr. 5, 1986 – The Disney Channel’s 10-hour mini-series “Return to Treasure Island” began airing.
Apr. 5, 1991 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures film “The Marrying Man” was released.
Apr. 5, 1991 – The Disney TV series “The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage” began airing on NBC. (Ended May 26, 1991)
Apr. 5, 1998 – “The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management),” attraction (a modified version of Disneyland’s Enchanted Tiki Room), opened in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. The attraction originally opened as Walt Disney’s Tropical Serenade on Oct. 1, 1971.
Apr. 5, 2001 – The Disney Channel Brazil made its debut.
Apr. 5, 2001 – At the Great Hall of the National Building Museum, Michael Eisner and the Walt Disney Co. were honored for “Visionary Architectural Patronage” by the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
Apr. 5, 2005 – Disney’s On The Record (a touring musical revue) began a series of performances at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts.
Apr. 5, 2006 – The Walt Disney Co. introduced a wireless phone service today called “Disney Mobile” designed for children but with parents’ concerns in mind (Service will launch June 1, 2006)
