View Full Version : The worst ride to get stuck on?

What is the worst ride to get stuck on and why? During our feb trip we got stuck on finding nemo right in front of that big loud fish that comes flying out at you from the dark on an electronic arm. The worst part was the small child in the clam shell next to us was so afraid and screamed for the entire 8 minutes the ride was stuck! Poor kid! We also got trapped on haunted mansion right when the doom buggy goes backwards and reclines down the hill. (hard on the back but was nice to take a break).

I would hate to get stuck on Its a smallworld...the song would drive me crazy

It's a Small World. The boats stopped and we were stuck for about 5 minutes (seemed like an hour). My son was 8 at the time and when we went back this past April (he was 10) he absolutely REFUSED to go on that ride again! I'm pretty sure we had that song stuck in our head the rest of the day! LOL

Out of the 5 trips I have taken, only got stuck on 1 ride... splash mountain. It wouldn't have been so bad but it was November, a little chilly and starting to rain, my DD8 HAD to go on it since it was our last day in MK so I figured it would be ok, they had the sprayers turned off... ride stopped us near the beginning in an opening for what seemed like an hour (probably was about 10 mins or so) rain progressively coming down harder and harder until it poured and then we moved... really... my own fault but I came out freezing and soaked :snowball:

I've been stuck in Spaceship Earth a few times, (20 minutes before) but we love that ride, so not a bad place to be stuck :)

I have been stuck in Small World and yes, it is endless!

Maybe nearly unanimous for Small World? Though MissTink's Splash experience sounds awful, it's not normally a ride I mind getting stuck on.

This is a good question. :)
I actually don't mind getting stuck on any ride. I love every minute more that I get to spend on a ride. :) Plus I believe that time freezes when you are there. I'm in Disney and I don't get to go on that ride on a daily basis so I enjoy any extra minutes of being on them. ;)
With that being said, I will tell you I wouldn't like to be stuck on mission space....too small of a space to be stuck in :) Although I have never heard of anyone being stuck on that.....
Tower of Terror is another one....most of it is in pure darkness...I would be scared to death. :)

My youngest son and I got stuck in the Haunted Mansion in the graveyard once. Totally freaked him out (he was a teenager at the time), although he stayed calm. DH and I got stuck on the chair lift at Blizzard Beach once. The thing came to a stop about 8 feet out from the landing at the top. We sat there for about 10 minutes before they got it moving again. That was a little different!

On my last trip, it was all of them. Every ride at the MK that would stop in the middle of the ride, such as Splash or HM, would stop all the music of the ride and then go into a spiel about how it will be moving soon. I HATED it.

Instead of keeping the ride theme music going, it would cut off and say "Looks like Brer Bear and Brer Fox are causing some comotion downstream. Please stay put while we get things moving again." It would play every time it took a little too long for the logs to be filled at the landing. I would've been ok to hear that spiel once on the ride - but it happened 8 or 9 times! I'm sure it all stems from when that not-so-bright dude decided to crawl out of the log when it had stopped. Now the lawyers are telling the execs to play the spiel to protect the company from people who don't think.

I would love it if Disney went back to just keeping the music running. All we have to do is stay in the ride vehicle until we get to the exit. We're smart people, we'll figure it out.

Not to hijack the thread, but the coolest one we have been stuck on was Space Mountain. They had to turn on all of the lights, so you could see everything. For some that might ruin the magic of the ride, but we liked seeing how it all came together:thumbsup:

This isn't exactly a ride, but the worst PLACE I ever got stuck was in the pre-show on Test Track. We went in and saw the show, then they somehow opened 2 doors at once. They told us to go back into the room and the door closed again. Then they seemed to forget about us as we just sat in that tiny closed rooms for several minutes. Then, when a door finally opened, it was to let in another large group of people. We started yelling "we're still in here." and they finally stopped the flow of people coming in. But then we had to watch the pre-show AGAIN in a tiny room now filled with 50 percent more people, before the other door finally opened again. All in all, what should have been a 10 minute wait took us about 40 minutes.

Was stuck on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad when I was little. I remember it quite well because we were stopped right before the second chain lift and that little shack they have there. It was in the middle of the summer, middle of the day, and about 100 degrees for an hour with no water or anything. THE WORST time ever...

Only good thing about it is that we got to go inside the mountain. That was really cool.

We also got stuck on Splash Mountain once for about 15 mins. It was about 95 degrees out and we were sitting in the sun the entire time. Our only saving grace was that we were going up the hill to the left of the main drop, and were being sprayed with huge amounts of water every 20 seconds. We were completely soaked from head to toe, and we hadn't even gone down the drop yet. It is funny now, but we weren't too happy during the fiasco.

We got stuck in the Haunted Mansion graveyard for about 10 minutes. FUN!

We got stuck in Winnie The Pooh for long enough that all of the lights came on.

It was a total bummer because the illusion was lost as you looked at a bunch of strings hanging from the ceiling (which normally gives the appearance of rain), as well as the dinginess of everything that you don't see when the lights are off and the 'black lights' on.

Am I the only one finding this thread hilarious? I mean, these all sound awful but you can laugh about them later (that crazy fish on the arm scaring the child, I can so imagine that being my kid!). That Brer Bear speech played numerous times when I was there a few weeks ago. I think the worst part is having to explain to your 5 year old why they keep saying that!

I have always had a fear of getting stuck upside down on a ride, so my vote is for RnRC. I think I would have a nervous break down if I were stuck in an upside down position. Otherwise -- all in good fun. :mickey:

I was stuck in Its A Small World for about 10 minutes where everyone is wearing white. To make it worse the only reason we rode it was because it started to storm and we figured we would dodge the rain. I think I will take the rain next time :rain:

I totally know what you mean. We got stuck on it probably at the same time as you. I also got stuck on that ride last April right at the top of the big hill before the drop. We sat there for about 20 minutes, and then they had to unload everyone and walk us out the back exit. That was very interesting.

The worst thing I was stuck on though was the TTA or people mover. UGH. We were stuck on there for a looooong time once, in an area where there was nothing to see. It was hot and awful. I don't ever want to be stuck on that one again. Also on the same trip, we were stuck in one room of the Carousel of Progress. I know every word of "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow!" :mickey:

I don't think that there can be a worse experience than being stuck on IASW. That's never happened to me, but I would imagine that it would drive you nuts.

The only one i've ever truly been stuck on (having it stop for a minute because of slow loading/unloading doesn't count) is POTC. We got stuck just before the end....just before the jail scene with the pirates trying to convince the dog to give them the key. At first, we just sat there, and the ride audio and lighting was like normal. Then, after about ten minutes they turned the lights on. Then, about ten minutes later they finally turned the audio off and a CM came out and told us a few jokes. Then, after a total 30-35 minute wait, a CM with hip waders got into the water and pushed out boats backwards to one of the town scenes and evacuated us from the boats. We got to walk up the stairs through the set, and out the back. It was kind of neat to see the backlot of Adventureland.

We got stuck on POTC a few weeks ago in the auction scene, which I thought was pretty cool, because it's once of my favorite scenes. After 20 minutes with audio, I can say that it will be a LONG time before I get on that ride again. They finally turned off the music and turned on the lights, but there was an announcement every 2 minutes to tell us that the ride had stopped. After about 45 minutes, the ride started again and you could hear applause and cheering throughout the entire ride.

The worst part was being 5 months pregnant with severe morning sickness being stuck in a BOAT right at lunchtime.:ill:

Though it's one of my favorite rides, we were stuck on PotC on one of our last trips. They just kept playing yo ho... over and over... It was fine for the first few minutes because it was so hot outside and we were able to keep cool a little longer. But after about 10 minutes or so, what seemed like 30 or longer, I'd had enough.

BTW thats still not an excuse for flash photography...:soapbox:

We were stuck on Splash Mountain once while a thunderstorm was coming through! Nothing like a lightning/thunderstorm while on a log/water ride. To top it off we had a lady in the seats in front of us get out of the log flume to take a picture of her friend! So the stress of getting struck by lightning, and getting yelled at for someone not staying in the log topped that bad stuck on a ride experience!

My family and I got stuck on the WED way people mover a few years ago. I don't mean stuck for a few minutes I mean really stuck. We were right over the speeedway near space mountian. We were stuck for over an hour. We watched the fireworks from our spot. It was close to closing when we got on and did not get off until after the entire park had shut down. The CM had to go to every car use a key to open the doors and then walk us off . Funny thing was we could not touch the track and we had to cross it to get to the stairs behind SM. My DD and DH had no problem leaping across but me being under 4'11 ,I just was too afraid to make the leap. A CM and my DH had to lift me across like a five year old. We were given a fast pass good for all the rides at MK for the next day and they got us transportation back to our resort. It wasn't horrible as it was not hot or uncomfortable, it was just a experieince.

Lucky for us we haven't got stuck on very many rides but by far Toy Story Mania was the worse. We did ride during the soft opening but still we were stuck for 45 min. The poor people in front of us had 5 children and the way the ride is set up there was 3 little girls (triplets) either 2 or 3 years old by themselves and each parent had the other child. The poor mother was in a panic because she could even see the kids. And you are pinned down in the bar so it's not like you could get out. We were in a turn so I couldn't see 2 of the 3 girls. Could you imagine three 3 year old screaming for 45 min. Rightfully so they were facing a wall. Great ride but this has got to be the worse set up for getting stuck.

I got stuck on the Great Movie Ride for like 30 minutes the trip before last. Seriously, it was just a nightmare. I was in the little Tarzan section watching Jane sit on her elephant saying "Ungawa" over and over and over! The monkey would make his monkey noise over and over. And the best part (rather the worst part) was watching Tarzan swing one way, seeing him turn around on his rope/pole and then doing it again. My wife and I were hearing his jungle cry "AaaaaAaaaaAaaaaaAaAaaaAaaah!" in our sleep for like a month. After like 5 minutes it was bad, after 10 really lame, after 20! 25?!?! Kill me now!

The Great Movie Ride is really one of the weaker offerings at the MK and being stuck on that, I think I would prefer
ANY of the others mentioned. I've also been stuck for shorter periods on the Monorail, Skyway, HM, Ellen's Energy Adventure and none of them even came close to rivaling the lameness that was the Great Movie Ride!

I think the worst ride would have to be IASW. The only ride I've ever gotten stuck on is HM as we were "falling" down into the graveyard going backwards. That trip we rode HM three times and got stuck there all three times. It was only about 10-15 minutes and it was actually quite fun. :mickey:

I've been stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean more often than any other ride. The absolute worst was the time we got stuck in the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" section. Yikes.....

In all my trips to DisneyWorld I've been very fortunate in that I can only remember ever being stuck on a ride once. We were on the monorail when the park lost power and we sat just outide the Contemporary Hotel for quite a while before they got us in and off.

Small World would be rough to get stuck on, but as I don't ride that anymore to avoid having that ear-worm in my head any more than it already is. I think I'd be a bit freaked out to get stuck on Expedition Everest at that apex point where you go from forwards to backwards.

I've been stuck on: Toy Story Mania, HM(a lot), The Great Movie Ride, Splash Mt., Spaceship Earth, Test track, Universe of Energy, & The Carousel of Progress. That's all I can think of right off the top of my head. The worst was being stuck in the HM in the section where the crystal ball is and hearing her say the same thing over and over and over for about 10 minutes!

Got stuck on Spaceship Earth when the kids were pretty young. We stopped right in front of the Pharaoh, and he kept turning and looking right us every few seconds. Creepy.

I wouldn't want to be stuck on TOT in mid drop. Doubt that's even possible but really scary if it would ever happen.

We got stuck on Dinosaur once a few years back,I kind of enjoyed it, however DD's were not too thrilled. Would not want to be stuck in the hot sun for too long though...Love getting stuck in the HM too, dark, cool, nap time!

We've had the occasional stop, and go, and stop on HM, got stopped on TSM the first time we rode it and had to walk off, and stuck at TT just before loading for twenty minutes while they fixed a car. But I think the absolute worst one to get stuck on would be Everest-at the top of the hill-just as you're waiting to go backwards! That would be horrible. ( luckily, it hasn't happened though!)

I have been stuck on HM with my DH and DS who was about 2 at the time. We were stopped at the singing heads. DS declared it TERRIBLE. I guess when you are 2 that is probably the worst thing that has ever happened to you so it was TERRIBLE in his mind.

I have also been stuck on SM, IASW, SE... nothing that was extremely long however.

When DH was a kid (10 or so), his entire family filled up a boat on PotC and it got stuck at the pig/donkey for what he now says was HOURS. He can't even remember how they got off as he claims it was very "traumatic". haha!:mickey: Couldn't have been that bad... he still goes on it!

When I was very small we were stuck on Space Mountain at the point where the cars stop RIGHT after loading and before actually taking off. That was awful. I couldn't see anybody in my family because of the way the seats are and we were there for about 45 minutes! On my last trip we were stuck on HM by the singing heads and we thought it was awesome! Even being up so close for a long time they still look real!

It's fun reading all these posts. See most people see it as an inconvenience getting stopped on a ride and even the occasional having to be escorted from the ride by a CM. BUT, for us true Disney enthusiasts:mickey:, it's a blessing in disguise. It allows us to finally stop and really look at that particular section, dissecting it in our heads, taking it all in and seeing how the magic really works. And it's even more fun when you have to be escorted.

Only once has THAT happened to me in all my trips down there. Had gotten stuck in the graveyard scene in HM. Sadly it was only for about 10 min I'd say before all of a sudden the lights come on and then we start seeing a CM manually opening the Doom Buggy's to let people out so we can leave. The CM apologized for the inconvenience and we just said right back to him that it wasn't a problem at all and we thought it was cool that this happened. I think the CM just looked at us like we were crazy. :silly::silly: But it was great to look at the animatronics as close as possible, without of course being an Imagineer, and seeing for your own eyes in the light the way they REALLY look that most people have only seen on tv. And, we had also noticed we could see underneath the track a little bit and could see the computers that help operate the ride too. :D

So for me, I say, LET me get stuck on a ride b/c only once have I ever been stuck in a bad spot, so my luck is pretty darn good. Shame I never got escorted off of Horizons or WoM or even JII back in the day. That would have put me on :cloud9:

The Pharoah is the creepiest AA ever. He looks you straight in the eye. I thought I was the only who thought this and I kept it to myself for fear anyone would think I was mentally unhinged. :secret:

Every time, we go on HM without fail, we get stuck in the Graveyard. Reading these replies, it seems it's not an uncommon occurrence. :mickey:

Can only ever recall being caught on Splash Mountain when it malfunctioned. It wasn't too bad, just a bit frustrating when you're stuck in one part of one room when you want to be out in all of the magic.

Thought of one that would've been horrid, though not possible now: ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Especially if a young child was on it. *shudders*

this happened to us...So annoying! Then, just as they got it running again, a lady 'downstream' freaked out and jumped out of her log. They had to shut things down again and walk her out of the ride. She was having a full blown panic attack. Did not look like fun!

As annoying/dramatic as that was, it's stillmy nightmare thinking about being stuck on IASW! Those singing dolls freak me out!
