Has anyone tried doing this themselves? I tried using a blower to remove a large dust spot and just made it worse. I'm afraid the swabs may just make it worse also.
You didn't have this problem with film cameras. :(

I'm afraid to do this myself... when I need to, I'm taking my camera to a shop and asking them to do it. Good luck though!

Call a pro... Shouldn't be changing lenses in dusty environments to begin with, but sometimes you can't help it.

I have cleaned mine. I was afraid to do it and had a spot for about a year.

What I did was use a rocket air blaster, set my camera to the Bulb setting, took my lens off my camera, held the shutter down, and blew the sensor off. I did hold the camera with the opening pointed towards the floor so no dust would settle back onto the sensor.

It worked and I haven't had to do it again.

That's what I did and I just can't get rid of one big spot except in post processing.

Your camera's menu should have a setting for "manual sensor cleaning" which will keep the mirror up for you. Setting on "bulb" is not the best option. If the mirror comes down on your blower tip lots of bad things can happen.:mickey:
