Mar. 2, 1986 – Disneyland’s “Safari Outpost” opened in Adventureland.
Mar. 2, 1995 – Elton John won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”.
Mar. 2, 2000 – The Orlando Sentinel reported that WDW was planning a space exploration attraction that has intrigued NASA. The Space Pavilion, expected to open at Epcot in 2003, would feature a series of interactive exhibits and shows describing space exploration, culminating in a motion-simulator ride similar to what NASA astronauts use to prepare for space flight.
Mar. 2, 2003 – WDW’s Blizzard Beach water park opened for the season.
Mar. 2, 2004 – Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold held a SaveDisney.com briefing and reception for shareholders of the Walt Disney Co in Philadelphia, Pa. The day before Disney’s Annual Meeting. The event drew 800 people.
Mar. 2, 2004 – The ABC-TV comedy series “According to Jim” aired part 2 of “When You Wish To Be A Star,” an episode filmed aboard the Disney Magic. It is the first time ever an entertainment program has been filmed aboard either of the premier Disney Cruise Line ships.
Mar. 2, 2005 – The Disney Channel was nominated in nine categories at the 32nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. (More than any cable network). Its sister studio, Walt Disney Television Animation, was honored with 7 nominations (more than any animation studio.) Programs nominated included “Kim Possible,” “Lilo & Stitch: The Series,” and “Rolie Polie Olie.” (Winners would be announced in May)
Mar. 2, 2007 – The 4th Annual ESPN The Weekend begn at Disney-MGM Studios in WDW. (3-day event)
Mar. 2, 2007 – ABC and the Disney Channel swept the 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards with nine wins. Among the winners were Disney Channels “That’s So Raven” for Outstanding Children’s Program and Outstanding Performance, Children’s Program for star Raven Symone.
Mar. 2, 2007 – Disney’s Touchstone Pictures released the comedy “Wild Hogs” starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy.
