I need some recommendations for dining. My boyfriend and I are going to Disney World in September. It will be his first time, he's 24, and my 4th, I'm 23, and we're staying a resort for 6 nights but not on the DDP. I'm looking for 2-3 places in the parks for TS. I've eaten at CRT, Rainforest Cafe (AK & DTD), and Planet Hollywood and I'm not fan of any. We also won't feel comfortable at the very fancy places. Any help is appreciated :)

Ohana in the Polynesian is really good. We ate there for the first time last year & had such a great time. The food was excellent! We were disappointed we hadn't gone there sooner but it will def be one of our regulars from now on.

Boma is also great. Don't let the African inspired foods scare you. Nothing is spicy as some might expect. Very large selection & the soups & desserts are delicious. The place itself isnt overly fancy even though it's in AKL. The bonus is before or after your meal you can venture out the back of the resort & see some of the animals.

Yak & Yeti in AK was also a first for us last year & again we loved it.

If you're into Japanese Hibachi restaurants then Teppan Edo is a must try. Delisious food & entertaining chef's

If you're into character dining then Crystal Palace in MK is a good choice. They have a nice selection of food with characters from Winnie the Pooh.

MK - Tony's (Italian) ask for the garden room it is very pretty and you can watch the 3pm or evening parade.
Epcot - La Hacienda de San Angel (mexican) Ask for room #3 and watch Illuminations in the evening.
DHS- 50's Prime Time - very fun when you get told to wash your hands, eat all your veggies and keep your elbows off the table.
AK - I haven't tried any TS's here in the park other than Rain Forrest Cafe.
Boma's (African) at AKL

Goodness! Please don't judge Disney dining based on those 3 you mentioned! LOL! We've been to Rainforest several times (we have one up here as well) - its horrible - the only reason we went the last time was that we were given a gift certificate.

Here are our recommendations:

Le Cellier (this one is 2 points now - but the steaks, cheese soup, breads and creme brulee are just fabulous!)

Sci Fi Dine In - so much fun - stick to the burgers and shakes though (some of the other dishes can be "dry") the main draw of this restaurant is the "drive in movie" aspect.

Tutto Italia - fabulous Italian food - I don't think we have had anything here that wasn't delish.

Liberty Tree - really good family style "American" food.

San Angel Inn at the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot - wonderful wonderful atmosphere, great food, serious margaritas!

Yak & Yeti - Asian/Thai - really really super!! And the atmosphere is fun too.

Flame Tree Barbeque (this one is a quick-service) - at Animal Kingdom - such good barbecue!! Plus, eating by the water and watching Everest is fun too.

Citrico's at the Grand Floridian (I know you said you didn't want anything fancy - this one isn't too fancy really - you can't wear your swimsuit there or anything - but just general resort wear is acceptable - see the dining page here or call Disney dining for details - also book an earlier dinner to avoid making it feel formal.) Anyway - the food is outstanding. :-)

Some of the character buffets are really good too! Chef Mickey's is our favorite - Crystal Palace is also good!

Enjoy choosing!!

On top of the other recommendations that everyone has given, we really like to get a seating around Illuminations at Rose & Crown. Outside is great but even if you sit inside they will escort you to a private viewing area. The food is good and the beer selection is great. I think you'll like the pub atmosphere.

Ohana's Ohana's Ohana's

DBF and I did this our first night on our first trip together. Its a fun atmosphere, food is great, there really isn't anything "fancy" about it.

Try to book close to the time that the Wishes fireworks go off and you can watch from the huge windows while they pipe the music in.

Another nice option is Mama Melrose in MGM/HS. We had a lovely waiter. When he found out it was our first trip to WDW as a couple he brought us out a complimentary appetizer. Its pretty standard Italian fare with some nicer upscale options as well. You and your DBF should be more then comfortable with the atmosphere.

Also if you want to venture outside the parks/resorts you can head to downtown Disney. Raglan Road Pub is a great option for a young couple. DBF and I had some awesome steaks there. Our ressie was for late on a friday night and we spent a fair amount of time with our :beer: enjoying the music and dancing. Definitely a "young" relaxed atmosphere.

Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness lodge is great....very laid back and loads of fun.

Ohana's is also great - served family style all you can eat.

Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom....we went there for breakfast and was our favorite breakfast by far (we ate at 4 different breakfast buffets during our last stay but this was our favorite)

Liberty Tree Tavern at Magic Kingdom is great....all you can eat thanksgiving foods.

Flametree Barbecue at Animal Kingdom is a counter service - but pretty good - and this is coming from someone who lives just miles from Kansas City and their fabulous barbecue!
