Jan. 26, 1995 – The Walt Disney Co. announced that earnings have grown 31 percent in its fiscal first quarter. The company’s investment in Euro Disney resulted in income of $27.9 million reflecting a gain of $55 million from the sale of approximately 75 million shares of Prince Alwaleed Bin Tatal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Jan. 26, 1996 - Chef Mickey’s Restaurant opened at Disney’s Contemporary Resort after moving from its original location from The Village Marketplace.
Jan. 26, 1996 – The first race took place at the Walt Disney World Speedway, the Formula Ford 200.
Jan. 26, 1997 – At Super Bowl XXXI (in New Orleans) Green Bay Packers kick returner/punt returner Desmond Howard shouts “I’m doing to Disney World!” after his teams 35-21 win over the New England Patriots.
Jan. 26, 1998 – The Disney 6-hour mini-series “The Irish in America: Long Journey Home,” aired on WGBH Boston for PBS. (Ended Jan. 28, 1998)
Jan. 26, 1998 – Ranch and Grove Holding Corp. (which has owned some of the land in the WDW Resort since 1972) merged into the Walt Disney World Co.
Jan. 26, 2001 – The Disney Channel aired the Lizzie McGuire episode “When Moms Attack.”
Jan. 26, 2002 – Disney’s Saturady Morning Movies continued at the El Capitan Theater with the showing of Pinocchio. Guests were invited to dress as their favorite Disney characters from the film.
Jan. 26, 2003 – The Disney hour-long late night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” began airing on ABC.
Jan. 26, 2003 – At Super Bowl XXXVII (in San Diego) Jon Gruden and Brad Johnson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers proclaimed “We’re going to Disney World!” following their teams 48-21 win over the Oakland Raiders.
