I agree with LudWigVonDrake, driving under the Walt Disney World sign while on DME does it for me!

When I walk into MK for the first time and hear the bands playing, the smell of the bakery, see the CM's with their big hand fulls of Mickey balloons for sale and all of the people on the street....well, I start jumping up and down with excitement just like I was a little kid again! :joy: My daughter gets a little embarrassed.

Three main moments do it for me...

1. Walking to the rental car area at MCO and seeing all the Disney busses

2. Driving under the WDW welcome road sign and honking my horn while hooting and hollering :D

3. Walking into my resort room at WDW for the first time

Seeing the Disneyworld welcome sign is a definite trigger for much joy. And when the car goes by the fire station on the way to the Boardwalk I know I'm really there. Add the entry gate to the Boardwalk Inn and being told "welcome home" by the cast member for the finishing touch.

Makes me happy just thinking of it all. :mickey:

We know we are in WDW when.....
1. We all scream for joy when we pass under the WDW sign.

2. we start seeing purple signs.

3. we spot our first monorail. We have a tradition that we do on each trip. We each pick a color on the way to WDW. Then we look for the monorails as soon as we get on WDW property. Which ever color we see first is the winning color, and who ever picked that color gets a special treat (usually Disney Dollars).

4. We have our first meal at Ohana's, then watch Wishes and the water parade from the beach, then take a spin on the monorail. Nothing says "We are in WDW" like that very first night's meal.

5. Seeing the castle for the very first time on a trip.

when I was a kid, it was when my dad tuned the car radio into Disneys own station (no, not Radio Disney, young uns). Now, Id have to say the purple signs, followed closely by the resort sign (Ft W is my fave)

My wife stops hitting me.......

Ok seriously, when I don't even think about checking scores of whatever sports are in season at the time.

We also do the 10, 9, 8 countdown when we see the Welcome to Disneyworld signs.

Ditto!!!

I also remember the WDW radio station on I-75. I still miss the Disney welcome center in Ocala. It was my first and final gateways to WDW.

The entire drive down is cause for much build up and anticipation. We usually stop at the same gas station everytime on the way down "Daily's" in Palm Coast, FL. The place is clean, in Florida and had WDW souveniers. We start getting pretty amped when we get there, but then of coarse, driving under the WDW Welcome sign we know we're "home"

The moment for me occurs on the bus from my resort to the Magic Kingdom (always the first stop!) At a certain point, as we approach the park, the special music begins to play on the bus with the trumpet fanfare. "Welcome to Disney's Magic Kingdom!"

That's usually the moment when I get a little misty.

If arriving by car...when the background color of signs turns purple.

If arriving by air...when you board the Magical Express at Orlando International

The purple signs, landmarks, and the Welcome to WDW sign are all good indicators, but I truly "know" I am in WDW when they hand you the resort map indicating your room, your room keys, and send you off on your way...:mickey: sigh

We always fly so mine are getting on ME and the second is the first step in the hotel I am staying in (usuall the Poly).

This May will be a tad diffrent we are doing 2 weeks in Fl the first week in the Sarasota area than driving up to WDW, so I think this time when I see that Welcome to WDW sign will do it.

When I was little what made my family always feel we arrived in Disney in the late 70's early 80's they had their own info radio station you could only pick up on property. My dad would put that station on and we would know we were home!!!
