Jan. 9, 1977 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “Kit Carson and the Mountain Men.” Aired. (Part-2 aired Jan. 16, 1977)
Jan. 9, 1987 – Disneyland’s “Star Tours” attraction opened in Tomorrowland (occupying the space where Adventure Thru Inner Space once stood.) The celebration lasted for 60 hours and guests were given a Star Tours watch when they entered. The attraction featured the voice of Paul Reubens (a.k.a. PeeWee Herman) as Rex.
Jan. 9, 1988 – The “Star Tours” attraction opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
Jan. 9, 1992 – Painter-color stylist and Disney Legend Claude Coats passed away in Los Angeles, Ca. His stunning backgrounds could be seen in such animated classics as Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Dumbo.
Jan. 9, 1994 – The “Circle-Vision 360” attraction closed in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Replaced by “The Timekeeper”)
Jan. 9, 1996 - The California Grill opened at Disney’s Contemporary Resort replacing “Top of the World Restaurant”.
Jan. 9, 1999 - Horizons officially closed to be replaced by Mission Space.
Jan. 9, 2000 – The 7th Annual “Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon” presented by Foot Locker took place.
Jan. 9, 2002 – The Disney owned baseball team, the Anaheim Angels announced a new look for the teams uniforms. Capturing the tradition of Angel baseball and a contemporary “back to basics” flare, the new logo features the signature halo surrounding the “A” while the uniforms are reminiscent of decades past. Red is the dominant color for all of the new uniforms: home, road, alternate home and a batting practice jersey.
Jan. 9, 2003 – Disney’s two-hour TV movie “X-Team” aired on ABC.
