Dec. 20, 1907 – Singer-songwriter Al Rinker was born. Originally a member of the Rhythm Boys with Bing Crosby, Rinker wrote the song “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” for Disney’s 1970 “The Aristocats.”
Dec. 20, 1908 – Actor Dennis Morgan, who in 1958 would host Disneyland’s first Candlelight Processional Parade, was born in Wisconsin.
Dec. 20, 1909 – Animator Ambrozi “Amby” Paliwoda was born in Cleveland, Oh. He would work for Walt Disney Studios from 1935 to 1960. While t Disney he would help organize the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists, Local 839 IATSE. (After leaving Disney he would work for many other studios, including Hanna-Barbera and Filmation.) In 1985, Paliwoda would receive the Animation Guild’s Golden Award, for his lifetime of work in the animation field.
Dec. 20, 1924 – Disney Legend Sam McKin was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia. McKin would be instrumental in the design of various areas of Disneyland , as well as being the creator of the very first souvenir map of the park.
Dec. 20, 1924 – Funnyman Charlie Callas, who appeared in Disney’s 1977 “Pete’s Dragon,” was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Dec. 20, 1937 – Walt Disney was interviewed on the radio by film legend Cecil B. DeMille. They discussed the following evening’s Los Angeles, Ca. premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
Dec. 20, 1941 – Original Mouseketeer Tommy Cole (who remained with the show all 4 years) was born in Burbank, Ca.
Dec. 20, 1946 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Double Dribble” was released.
Dec. 20, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Guest Star Day” on ABC-TV.
Dec. 20, 1956 – Disney’s 42-minute People and Places featurette “Disneyland, U.S.A.” was released.
