Dec. 8, 1848 – It is believed by most historians that author and journalist Joel Chandler Harris was born near Eatonton, Ga. (Although some records indicate he may have been born on Dec.9) Harris will be best remembered for his collection of “Uncle Remus” stories. The tales of Uncle Remus will be translated into 20 languages and immortalized on film in 1946 by Walt Disney in “Song of the South.”
Dec. 8, 1888 – Herbert Arthur Disney (the oldest child of Flora and Elias Disney) was born in Daytona Beach, Fl. (Passed away Jan. 29, 1961)
Dec. 8, 1916 – Director/producer Richard Fleischer (a 2003 Disney Legend honoree), and was the director of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
