Dec. 4, 1918 – Walt Disney, aboard the S.S. Vaubin as a Red Cross volunteer, arrived in LeHavre, France.
Dec. 4, 1942 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “How to Fish” was released.
Dec. 4, 1949 – Actor Jeff Bridges, the star of Disney’s 1982 “Tron,” was born in Los Angeles, Ca.
Dec. 4, 1952 – Walt Disney wrote his annual birthday letter to his sister Ruth (who will celebrate on Dec. 6). His opening words include: “It’s time to wish you a Happy Birthday again, in which I am Joined by Lily and the girls.” He writes of family, his hobbies and the retirement of their brother Herb from the Post Office. As usual, Walt sends along a check as a birthday gift.
Dec. 4, 1957 – Walt’s annual birthday letter to his sister Ruth began with the words: “It is time for a “Happy Birthday” greeting again and I must say it seems only a short time ago that I sent your last birthday letter…the years really do tick by, don’t they?” He goes on to describe his and Lily’s recent trip to Europe. A check is included with the letter as a gift for Ruth.
Dec. 4, 1957 – The Disneyland TV series aired the episode “Mars and Beyond.” The program was hosted by Walt and a mechanical man named Garco.
Dec. 4, 1958 – Actor Steve Blanchard, the longest running Beast in “Beauty and the Beast” on Broadway, was born in York, Pa. He played the Beast for the last eight years of the Broadway run.
Dec. 4, 1959 – The Walt Disney Presents TV series aired episode 7 of “Texas John Slaughter: The Robber Stallion.”
Dec. 4, 1960 – The Walt Disney Presents TV series featured the 1st Daniel Boone episode “The Warriors Path.”
Dec. 4, 1971 – Walt Disney Productions released “The Aristocats,” (the 20th animated feature in the Disney animated feature canon) in Sweden.
