Nov. 24, 1784 – Zachary Taylor, the 12th U.S. President, was born in a log cabin in Montebello, near Barboursville in Orange County, Va. He could be visited along with all the U.S. Chief Executives at the “Hall of Presidents” attraction in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Nov. 24, 1826 – Carlo Collodi, Italian author and journalist, best known as the creator of “Pinocchio,” was born in Florence, Tuscany (Italy).
Nov. 24, 1888 – Actress Cathleen Nesbitt was born in Cheshire, England. Fans of Disney’s 1961 “The Parent Trap” would recognize her as Louise McKendrick.
Nov. 24, 1941 – After suffering a strike and declining revenue because of the war in Europe, Walt Disney’s Studio was in trouble. Disney animator Ward Kimball noted in his diary for this day: “100 layoffs announced. Studio personnel from 1600 to 300. Geez, Is this the writing on the wall?” (Disney would save itself by doing defense films for the army and with the post-war release of “Cinderrella” will be back on top.)
Nov. 24, 1942 – Actor Bill Connolly, the voice of Ben in Disney’s 1995 release “Pocahontas,” was born in Scotland.
Nov. 24, 1950 – The Disney cartoon “Morris, the Midget Moose” was released.
Nov. 24, 1954 – The Disneyland TV series presented “So Dear To My Heart,” starring Burl Ives.
Nov. 24, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode on this Thanksgiving Day “Today is Circus Day” on ABC-TV.
Nov. 24, 1955 – The “Mickey Mouse Club Circus” began under the big top at Disneyland. (Ended Jan. 8, 1956)
Nov. 24, 1955 – Disneyland held its 1st annual “Christmas at Disneyland Festival” for the holiday season. (Ran through Jan. 8, 1955)
