Nov. 18, 1918 – Walt Disney sailed aboard the S.S.Vaubin to France, as a Red Cross volunteer.
Nov. 18, 1928 – Mickey Mouse starred in “Steamboat Willie,” the first animated cartoon to use synchronized sound. The Disney film debuted as a sneak preview at the Colony Theatre (located at Broadway and 53rd Street in N.Y.C.) The cartoon also featured the first appearance of Minnie Mouse.
Nov. 18, 1928 - Mickey Mouse’s Birthday.
Nov. 18, 1929 – Walt Disney sent the first six Mickey Mouse comic strips to King Features.
Nov. 18, 1932 – A special Academy Award was given to Walt Disney for the creation of Mickey Mouse. Disney released “Parades of Academy Award Nominees,” a short made especially for the 1932 Academy Awards.
Nov. 18, 1952 – Actor Delroy Lindo was born in London, England. He was the voice of Beta, a Rottweiler and member of Muntz’s pack of talking dogs in Disney/Pixar’s “Up.”
Nov. 18, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Talent Round-Up Day” on ABC-TV.
Nov. 18, 1957 – A color, full-page advertisement for Insurance by North America appeared in LIFE magazine. The add featured a photo of a family of 4 standing in front of Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and the entrance to Fantasyland.
Nov. 18, 1958 – The LP record “Firehouse Five Plus Two – Around the World!” was released on the Good Time Jazz label. The Dixieland group was led by Disney animator & trombonist Ward Kimball.
Nov. 18, 1960 – Actress Elizabeth Perkins, the voice of Coral in Disney’s 2003 “Finding Nemo,” was born in Queens, N.Y.
