Finally!! After 94 weeks of unemployment since losing my engineering project management job in January of 2009, I started a new position on November 1, 2010!!

I loved being the Project Manager and Environmental Manager at my previous employer, but a bunch of us were let go in January of 2009 due to financial problems with the company (just 13 days before my birthday, and just over 2 months after DH was diagnosed with MS....UGH!) It was a really bad time to lose my job, but we made it through...even getting to WDW a few times.

The chemical engineering market was absolutely horrendous in 2009 and early 2010, but my luck turned around in August when I applied to Air Products (along with A LOT of other out of work engineers). I met with 5 very nice gentlemen (engineering managers) for over 2.5 hours, and felt pretty darn good when I walked out.

I had my interview just a week or so before we went to WDW from 10/4/10 - 10/13/10, and was hopeful. I spent the entire trip checking my phone for voicemails, and wondering when they would call. Then, on the 18th I got the call :woohoo:. Subsequent screaming and :joy: and  and , and eventually :faint: occurred after I hung up the phone, along with phone calls to everyone I know.

So, I am now a Senior Project Engineer for Air Products & Chemicals, Electronics Specialty Gases Division. Basically, I still get to be a project manager, but with a lot more resources and support.

I was afraid I didn't have it in me, but I did it, and I'm really proud of myself for the first time in....... well...... 94 weeks.

Congrats -- you know my youngest son is a freshman chem e student at Rose-Hulman. It was carefully explained to him that while it might be the most lucrative field -- it is also the hardest to find a job in

Thanks
Scott

Thanks so much everyone!!

Scott C....

A lot if engineers lost their jobs over the last couple years, and I mean A LOT!

Unfortunately, a lot of that attrition will stick around for years to come. But, if your son gets the grades, and makes some very impotent connections, he'll be okay...most likely.

The engineering market is still very ugly, especially ChemE. Hopefully by the time he gets out of college, things will be a little better.

Again, thanks everyone!
