So the other night DH and I were talking. DH was suggesting summer jobs for DS. I however pointed out that DS was currently making more at his part time job than he would at the job DH was suggesting for the summer. DS is 18 and currently making $11.28 per hour for his part time job while attending University full time. He lives at home, doesn't have to pay for his University, so really has no expenses, except for whatever spending money he wants. This lead me to thinking, just what was minimum wage now in Ontario, so I looked it up. We have the highest minimum wage in Canada at $10.25 per hour, which I think is pretty good.
What is the minimum wage where you live?

7.25 in FL I believe. We were just discussing this at dinner tonight. How anyone can live on that is beyond me.

I have no idea what it is today, but back when I was in high school I made $3.25 an hour working at McDonalds. A lot has changed since the mid 80's:thumbsup:

I can also remember making $3.25/hr and was excited when I got a 10% raise. And I could make it as a teenager at that time paying for my own gas and extras. I'm not sure what minimum wage is now, but I think it's somewhere around $7.25-$7.75. And here, teenagers (ie school kids) can't work past 9pm so it's almost pointless after school and extra curricular stuff to try to even work.

Minimum wage is $7.25 in Arizona. For a teen living at home that is just fine but not for an adult trying to earn a living.

Don't even get me started on medical insurance. I just got an $1100 bill from my doctor. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have insurance. (Forgive the rant.)

The minimum wage in the UK is £5.93 per hour. At the current exchange rate this works out about $9.31.
Still doesn't seem like very much though

7.25 in Delaware but certain agriculture jobs and restaurant positions pay less. I was making 10.50 an hour as a teacher.

I think it's $7.25/hour in PA.

I remember my very first job paid $3.25 an hour. I actually had a few jobs that paid less than that because tips were involved. I made $2.12 an hour at a restaurant job once!

When my husband and I got married I was making $4.00 an hour. I was a full time student and working full time. My husband was a truck driver for a local plumbing company and he earned $5.50 an hour. It gives us a deep appreciation for what we now have.

When I was living in Jersey it was $7.25 an hour. Not sure what it is in NC. But I can say as an adult it is next to impossible to live on minimum wage, even if you have two full time working adults in a home. Makes me think its time states rethink what minimum wage should do..

In MA the minimum wage is $8.00 for non-tipped and $2.63 for tipped positions.
Federal minimum wage is $7.25 so no state can pay less than that.
It appears that the State of Washington is the highest @ $8.55.
I know I couldn't live on minimum wage. I work 2 jobs as it is!

I got my first job in 1985 when I was 16 working at a Supermarket chain. $3.35 an hour, BUT it was a Union job, and by 18 when I was putting myself through college and working more, I had better benefits than most adults. Stuck it out for 14 years, paid for college, met my husband there, paid for our wedding with the extra job money, and finally called it quits in 2000 when I was tired of working two jobs and wanted to start a family. I will say it served me well. I will receive a pension from this job, which I think is a little over the top, but hey, I did pay into it. My "minimum wage job"
When I left I was making $15.00 an hour, but it was a second job...
I watched Morgan Spurlock's documentary 30 days making minimum wage. It was really eye opening and sad.
$7.25 an hour here in NJ.
You can't make it on that...not in NJ.

I remember making $2.425 per hour in a supermarket, That, coupled with the union benefits , including double time and a half on Sundays, made it a great PT job for a student.
