Oct. 20, 1901 – Composer Frank Churchill, whose music appears in such Disney classics as “Peter Pan,” “Dumbo,” and “Bambi,” was born in Rumford, Maine.
Oct. 20, 1922 – Actor John Anderson, the voice of Mark Twain and Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Epcot’s American Adventure attraction, was born in Clayton, Il.
Oct. 20, 1924 – Disney’s Alice Comedy, “Alice Gets in Dutch” was shown at the Piccadilly Theatre on Broadway in N.Y.C. It is the first time an Alice Comedy is screened in a first-run Broadway theater.
Oct. 20, 1931 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “The Fox Hunt” was released.
Oct. 20, 1935 – Actor Jerry Orbach, the voice of Lumiere in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” was born in N.Y.C.
Oct. 20, 1941 – Walt Disney, his wife Lillian, and eight of his employees arrived in N.Y.C. when the ship they were on, the Santa Clara, docked at 16th Street on this day. (They have traveled from South America where they have spent the last 2 months. Three days later they would attend the world premiere of “Dumbo” at the Broadway Theater.
Oct. 20, 1955 – Composer Thomas Newman, who scored the original music for the 2003 “Finding Nemo,” was born in Los Angeles, Ca.
Oct. 20, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Circus Day” on ABC-TV.
Oct. 20, 1963 – A groundbreaking ceremony for the 1st Hollywood Museum took place. Rosalind Russell, Jack Warner, Gene Autry, and Walt Disney were present. (The museum would never be built.)
Oct. 20, 1963 – The Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color TV show aired “The Wahoo Bobcat.”
