Sept. 11, 1892 – Pinto Colvig, known as the ‘Dean of Hollywood Voicemen’, and lent his voice to such classic Disney characters as Goofy, Pluto, and Sleepy and Grumpy from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” was born in Jacksonville, Or.
Sept. 11, 1911 – Walt Disney began attending Benton Grammer School located at 3004 Benton Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri. (He would continue his formal education there until he graduates from the 7th grade in 1917.)
Sept. 11, 1923 – Engineer Don Edgren was born in Los Angeles, Ca. His 33 years of Disney problem-serving would begin in 1954 when the engineering firm he worked for would be hired to help ready Disneyland for its opening. Edgren would be hired by Disney in 1961. He would go on to help build such loved attractions as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “Space Mountain.”
Sept. 11, 1951 – Actor Michael Keaton was born in Corapolis, Pa. His Disney credits include the 2005 live-action feature “Herbie: Fully Loaded” and the 1982 TV special “Kraft Salutes Walt Disney World’s 10th Anniversary.”
Sept. 11, 1957 – The Mellomen (a vocal group featuring Thurl Ravenscroft) appeared on the Disneyland TV series 4th Anniversary Show.
Sept. 11, 1957 – The Disney TV show “The Fourth Anniversary Show” aired.
Sept. 11, 1957 – Oscar-winning animator Brad Bird was born in Kalispell, Montana. He is best known for directing “The Incredibles,” and “Ratatouille.”
Sept. 11, 1957 – “The Mellomen” (a vocal group featuring Thurl Ravenscroft) appeared on the Disneyland TV series opener for the 4th season. This 75th episode of the overall series started off with a celebration party from the “Mickey Mouse Club,” as they helped celebrate the 4th anniversary of the ABC-TV series.
Sept. 11, 1962 – Actress E.G. Daily, the singing voice of Beary Barrington in Disney’s 2002 “Country Bears,” was born in Los Angeles.
Sept. 11, 1968 – The U.S. Postal Service paid tribute to Walt Disney with the release of a 6 cent commemorative postage stamp. (The portrait featured on the stamp was created by Disney artist Paul Wenzel.) A limited number of the stamps were adhered to commemorative envelopes and hand cancelled in Marceline, Missouri.
