My cousin's son and his wife are moving to Georgia. We are going to a going away party on Monday...is it common practice to give some sort of gift????

My DBF and I recently (three weeks ago) moved from NJ to NC. His sister threw us a going away party with most of our extended family present and while I didn't expect anyone to most of them gave us monetary gifts or gift cards to target/sears ect. That being said we both lived at home before moving so we needed a ton of stuff for the move South. Those gifts were such a huge help with the very expensive task of moving.

What you do is up to you, just giving you the opposite view :)

When I have gone to a going away party in the past we have brought a gift, usually a gift card. Much easier to pack .

We also went around town and took pictures of all the places my friends like to go to and made a little scrap book.

Another nice idea is to send them a postcard every week for a month after they move to let them know you are thinking of them.
