Aug. 30, 1908 – Actor Fred MacMurray, star of Disney’s 1961 film “The Absent Minded Professor,” and the 1963 “Son of Flubber,” was born in Kankakee, Il.
Aug. 30, 1936 – The 1st comic strip entirely devoted to Donald Duck debuted in newspapers. Prior to this Donald had only appeared in the Silly Symphonies Sunday pages.
Aug. 30, 1938 – Actor Don Pedro Colley was born in Klamath Falls, Or. His Disney credits include “Herbie Rides Again,” and “The World’s Greatest Athlete.”
Aug. 30, 1940 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “Pluto’s Dream House” was released.
Aug. 30, 1943 – Walt Disney was awarded (along with other notable Hollywood celebrities) the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle at a ceremony held at the National Palace in Mexico. (The medal was given to luminaries as a reward fro services to humankind or Mexico.
Aug. 30, 1946 – Disney’s Donald Duck film “Dumb Bell of the Yukon” was released.
Aug. 30, 1987 – The Wonderful World of Disney aired “Disney’s Fluppy Dogs.”
Aug. 30, 1991 – Disney’s syndicated TV series “The Challengers” aired its last show.
Aug. 30, 1991 – A monorail train collided with a diesel maintenance work tractor near Disney’s Contemporary Resort as the tractor drove closely on front of the train to film it for a commercial. Two cast members were treated at a hopital for injuries.
Aug. 30, 1994 – A ground-breaking ceremony for Disney’s Wedding Pavilion took place at WDW.
