Aug. 28, 1881 – Illustrator Ferdinand Horvath was born in Budapest, Hungary. He would join Disney’s staff in the early 1930’s and worked as a sketch artist, idea man, and model creator. Horvath’s credits would include the shorts “The Cookie Carnival,” and “The Band Concert,” and the feature “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” He would leave in 1937 and go on to work for Columbia, Screen Gems, and Paramount’s Puppetoons.
Aug. 28, 1921 – Actress Nancy Kulp was born in Harrisburg, Pa. She was the voice of Frou-Frou the Carriage Horse in the 1970 “The Aristocats,” and potrayed Miss Grunecker in the 1961 live-action “The Parent Trap.” A veteran TV actress, Kulp is best known as Jane Hathaway from the series The Beverly Hillbillies.
Aug. 28, 1928 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse film “Gallopin’ Gaucho” was previewed in Los Angeles, Ca.
Aug. 28, 1929 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “Mickey’s Follies,” featuring Mickey’s theme song “Minnies Yoo Hoo” was released.
Aug. 28, 1957 – Disney’s 15-minute animated film “The Truth About Mother Goose” was released.
Aug. 28, 1957 – The Disney Featurette “Niok” was released.
Aug. 28, 1957 – Disney’s True-Life Fantasy film “Perri” was released.
Aug. 28, 1982 – Grammy Award-winning singer LeAnn Rimes, who was chosen to sing “Remember When,” Disneyland’s anthem song for its 50th Anniversary Celebration, was born in Jackson, Mississippi.
Aug. 28, 1988 – Disney received Emmy Awards for the following TV programs and individuals: “Beatrice Arthur” (Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (The Golden Girls)), Estelle Getty” (Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (The Golden Girls)), “O. Tamburri, Jack Chisholm, Stephen A. Jones, Ritch Kenney, Ken Tamburri, Robert G. Kaufmann” (Technical Direction/Electronic Camerawork/Video Control for Series (The Golden Girls)).
Aug. 28, 1989 – Michael Eisner and Jim Henson announced the agreement-in-principle for Disney to acquire Henson Associates, Inc. and to enter into a long-term production agreement with Jim Henson Productions.
