Aug. 25, 1913 – Actor Don DeFore, who appeared on the Disney TV programs “Disneyland ‘59” and “Dateline: Disneyland,” and also was the proprietor of “The Silver Banjo Barbecue Restaurant” located in Disneyland from 1957 to 1961, was born in Cedar Points, Iowa.
Aug. 25, 1913 – Cartoonist Walt Kelly, best known for his comic strip “Pogo,” was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Between 1935-1941 he would work for the Walt Disney Studios as a story man and animator on such features as “Pinocchio,” “Dumbo,” and “Fantasia.”
Aug. 25, 1923 – Walt Disney (now living in California) wrote a letter to film distributor Miss M.J. Winkler of N.Y.C. informing her that he is no longer connected with Laugh-O-Gram films in Kansas City, Missouri. Walt wrote: “I am establishing a studio in Los Angeles for the purpose of producing the new and novel series of cartoons I have previously written you about.”
