Aug. 6, 1887 – Composer-conductor Oliver Wallace was born in London, England. He would work at the Disney Studio (on both short subjects and features) from 1938 until his death in 1963.
Aug. 6, 1928 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short “Poor Papa” was released.
Aug. 6, 1961 – “The Flying Saucers” attraction opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, and would close 5 years later, due to constant repairs to the huge air compressors. (Closed Sept. 5, 1966)
Aug. 6, 1965 – Although it has been running since July, Disneyland hosted an invitation only showing of its new “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” attraction. The evening program included a retreat ceremony and dinner at the Plaza Inn.
Aug. 6, 1966 – Nita Dee, a member of the 1977-1978 TV show “The New Mouseketeers” was born.
Aug. 6, 1970 – A group of protestors called “Yippies” invaded Disneyland causing the park to close early.
Aug. 6, 1988 – The Disney Channel Premiere film “Ollie Hopnoodle’s Haven of Bliss” aired.
Aug. 6, 1993 – The Disney/Touchstone film “My Boyfriends Back” was released.
Aug. 6, 1996 – The “Rain Forest Café” opened in Disney Village Marketplace at WDW.
Aug. 6, 1999 – Disney’s live-action film “The Sixth Sense” was released.
