I just want to share my dad's way of celebrating the 4th of July when I was growing up. I'll have to ask him if he still does this.

He would get up by 6 am on July 4th, put the stereo speakers in the living room windows, and blast Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture into the neighborhood.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the piece, there are cannons booming at the end and it's quite thrilling! The Boston Pops play it every 4th of July by the Charles River.

I have no idea whether or not our neighbors loved it or hated it, but we did it every year.
