June 26, 1904 – Actor Peter Lorre was born in Austria-Hungry (now called Slovakia). Known for his unique speech and mannerisms, Lorre played the role of Conseil in Disney’s 1954 live-action feature “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
June 26, 1909 – Animator-director Wolfgang “Woolie” Reitherman, one of Walt’s “Nine Old Men,” was born in Munich, Germany.
June 26, 1952 – Disney’s family adventure film, “The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men,” starring Richard Todd, Joan Rice, and Peter Finch, was released.
June 26, 1952 – Disney’s True-Life Adventure film “Water Birds” was released.
June 26, 1956 – The Disneyland attraction “Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules” along with “Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches” opened in Frontierland. (Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches closed Sept. 13, 1959; and Rainbow ridge Pack Mules closed Oct. 2, 1959)
June 26, 1957 – The attraction “Viewliner,” which guests could take a ride on a streamlined train powered by a Oldsmobile V-8 “Rocket” engine, opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. (Closed Sept. 15, 1958)
June 26, 1959 – Disney’s Donald Duck film “Donald in Mathmagic Land,” was released.
June 26, 1959 – Disney’s live-action feature film “Darby O’Gill and the Little People” was released.
June 26, 1968 – The Disney film “Never a Dull Moment” was released.
June 26, 1985 – A fire engulfed the rear car of a monorail intransit from Epcot to the TTC. The train was carrying 240 passengers, 40 of whom were in the burning car.
