Day 8 – Friday May 28
Today we checked out of Old Key West to go over to the Contemporary for a couple of days. We had bagels in the room, then packed up our car and headed out. We were greeted by the General Manager as we arrived, and he escorted us over to the check in counter, while doling out stickers to the kids. Check in was done in a flash, and our 10th floor tower room was ready and waiting for us! I really dig the decor at the Contemporary, and the room was lovely, and our balcony looked out over the pool and Bay Lake. We unloaded our stuff, and decided to go over to MK for a bit.
We took the monorail around, and opted to do just a few things today. We rode the cars (Euan drove me ... bump.... bump .... bump) , then the guys rode the Teacups, and we went to the Laugh Floor again. We decided we wanted to go back to the hotel for some lunch and a swim in the pool. We walked back to the hotel via the path (the whole reason we wanted to stay at the Contemporary). We changed for swimming, and went to get something to eat. The counter service at the Contemporary was all right, but I think we should have grabbed something at MK. We spent a couple of hours at the pool, then came back and watched channel 96 while slowly getting cleaned up to head back over to the MK to meet our friends for the evening.
We took the monorail back, and decided to eat at Cosmic Ray’s, as we hadn’t seen Sonny Eclipse yet. We enjoyed our food and the entertainment as always, then we went on the Haunted Mansion, and headed over towards Adventureland to meet up with our friends. We rode the Jungle Cruise, then Pirates and it was just before Wishes was to start. Euan doesn’t handle the fireworks very well, so he wanted to go on another ride instead .... so Harry and our friends’ daughter RAN full speed across the hub, through the crowds, and up alongside the castle and around the teacups and up into Toontown, where they got in line for the last Barnstormer trip of the night ... Euan, our friend and I got there in time for Euan to join the other kids. They had so much fun. Then we were able to take a quick run through Minnie’s house, and then watch the fireworks from over there, where it was less crowded. We had arranged to meet Brian and our other three friends at the Ice Cream Parlor --- which was a NIGHTMARE to get to --- but we eventually made it over. Brian and our friends’ daughter stayed and got the ice cream, and the rest of us went off to the little alleyway with the tables and chairs near the artists (where you can hear the singing lessons). When the crowds thinned some, we walked back to the Contemporary to hang out on the balcony. (I loved being able to walk back!!) We all had a terrific visit, and then we had to part ways until our next holiday to WDW. Our friends were going away for the weekend, and we were returning home on Sunday. It was lovely to be able to see so much of them.
